Suggestions please. This problem is on an 1984 model. Here are the facts so far. BOTH rear drums are seized solid. It has been parked unused for 10 years, (yes ten). Hand brake OFF, IN gear. It is now up on axle stands. The drums won't turn AT ALL! I've sprayed it regularly with penetrating oil. I've tried to slacken the adjusters, they're seized too. I've had the castle nuts off, the drums are that tight they came off easily. The drum puller just pushed the drive shafts out. I've tapped them with a hammer but I'm cautious of hitting them too hard. What else can I do? _________________ I Know the Voices aren't real, but boy! They come up with some good ideas! |

Wobbly;
I wouldn't be too concerned about using the Rural technology on those rear drums, they can take quite a hit. I would heat them a little, not too much though because of the brake fluid and lines that are around it. Then take the hammer to them.
I know that my drums were a tight fit when I first removed them to rebuild the rear brakes on my car. They will come off.

Take a bigger hammer, you should change the drums anyway, so damage shouldn't matter _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

From what I've read I believe backing off the adjusters is the key to getting the drums off.. I'd therefore concentrate on them first.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

If it was me, I wouldn't even have the patience to post here about it... I would have grabbed a REALLY big hammer and started destroying long ago.
If the car's been sitting 10 years, it safe to assume you need to replace anything a hammer can break back there.. drums, shoes, bearings, and maybe even brake lines if you're clumsy enough, are all stupidly cheap on this car anyway _________________ 1979 924 NA

Just put the wheels back on and drag the whole car with a truck until they pop free.
I've always had good luck with that method. _________________ 1978 924
