I have the late model sunroof motor on my car. Just in front of the sunroof motor is a small barrel looking thing that holds the tubes together that the cable runs through. The thingies that hold the barrel to the tubes are missing. When I turn on the motor to raise the roof, the cable pushes out between the 2 tubes and ties itself into a knot. Anyone know where I can get these parts or know of another fix. New parts are way to expensive. Thanks.

Off the top of my head, the cable will only come out of the tube when the gears are stripped and the switch is in the sunroof release position; (key off). The slip-clutch normally prevents this from happening but when the gears are stripped the cable will just go until it comes all the way out.

To fix it, you need to replace the gears and readjust the slip-clutch so you don't strip the gears again.

I hope that helps!

No, it's not the gears. The roof works perfect if I hold the tubes together with my hands. I guess there are supposed to be 2 clips of some sort that hold the tubes to this barrel looking thing but I don't know what they look like because they are not there. Thanks.

I got what you're saying now. I don't see a lot of sunroof issues other than stripped gears, tight slip-clutches, or maladjusted micro-switches. So it can be hard to interpret whats going on when that's not the issue. Many times when guys are saying they are trying to put the sunroof up, they are actually in release mode with the key off and the cable will come shooting out backwards.

Anyway, I went out and found the barrel you are talking about. It has been a while since I had them apart there but believe the tubes just snap into it. The drive tubes are flared on the ends and don't require any clips there. So if yours is moving around you might need to re-flare the tubes or get a new barrel connector from Lart for a few bucks.

I hope that helps!
