|
|
Anyone fitted a later 944/968 sway bar using the early existing 931 chassis rail and longer drop link hardwear? Any pictures out there of this modification?
This is what I am planning but wondering about fouling the inner wheel arch as the sway bars take a different path to the A arms. Remember my car is quite low so the sway bar sits up higher on the ends. The 944 uses a shorter drop link than the 931 so this may help
Also planning to drill the bar on the ends to install a washer and split pin to avoid the drop links pinging off
Ideally I don't want to adapt to the later front mountings unless I really have to. The 944 crowd report breakages of these brackets even with the strengthening bracket added. I also not keen on the bar being as low as on the late 944's.
Just trying to see the challenges and do the head scratching now. Then I can get the hardwear bought and planned for so it can be a quick and simple swap over _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I am running late 968 sway bars with 1986 951 a-arms on the Club Sport. I don't think I have pix, but I used nutserts to attach the late style flat angle brackets to the frame spar. So far, no problems. I haven't driven on track, but I have driven about 3000 very aggressive miles on the street and haven't had any sign of fatigue or failure. The attachment at the a-arm uses the standard 968 drop links and bushings. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thanks Dan. Are running the 26.8 or 30mm front. And 16, 18 or 19mm rear?
Will look at the rivnut option but if I have to adapt the chassis mounting I may well adapt the angle bracket first creating a stronger link and use the existing early mounting if possible
If I go with the later set up I will also potentially have to swap out the A arms too. NA arms are cheap. Turbo ones are premium over here. Trying to minimise the work where possible

I put 24mm tubular front and 18 rear from an early 951 on my '77 NA and did a "How to" on it. I did have to shorten the drop links. I'm also have a 30mm from the 968 for my track car that I'll put on the same way with some additional reinforcing of the front chassis horns. I also modified the control arms so that the drop link goes into the same location as on aluminum control arms. [/img] _________________ Mike
