I'm getting smoke out of the exhaust consistently at idle. Starts outheavier, and then lightens up as the engine warms up. I'm planning to do a leak down test before jumping to conclusions, but I suspect the valve stem seals as the culprit.

I've read on this forum that there is a vw tool to replace the valve strm seals without removing the head, does anyone have a part number or place to purchase such a tool? All the threads I found that mention it, the image links were broken.

I have yet to drive the car since its been running, so I havent tried the engine braking test, but I will be changing the oil tonight, and may take it out for a quick test run.

I am not ruling out the turbo or the rings as other potential sources for this oil leak, but I'm hoping it won't require pulling the head.

Remove the plenum from the turbo to the throttle body and check for oil.

Make sure the oil is not overfilled. Other members have had issues with the PO installing the wrong dipstick.

Thanks, I think that is what I will be starting with. I drained all the old oil out of the car last weekend, and will be filling with new full synth 20w 50 on Friday. I'm hoping its the turbo causing the smoke, as the engine smokes immediately upon start up.
