I *think* my stock 14" 1978 wheels require the size listed above. Can anyone recommend a sticky DOT summer track tire? All I seem to find are winter tires...

Good luck with that.

It's not really summer tire buying season.

Also that size is more commonly used for snow tires and basic passenger car tires.

You're better off buying a set of 15" alloy wheels to use with sticky tires and keep the 14's for the winter.

Try searching for 195/60s. That's what was on my car when I bought it and they do fine.

I already have a problem with too many tires and wheels that don't match for my cars, and have spent too much on a 924 that isn't on the road... this car hasn't proven it self to me yet... once it proves it's worth, then we'll chat about gifts

THANK YOU for the great advice. Check these babies out: http://www.1010tires.com/Tires/Reviews/Falken/AZENIS+RT-615K

Also, a comparison (I will have to look up and see what size actually came on the '78 back in the day): https://tiresize.com/comparison/

Go 5-lug set up and be done with it. Not a lot of money considering the benefits and waaaay more tire/wheel choices.

Really, with 5x130 you are locked in to porsche wheels. 4x108 has way more wheels to chose from, new and second hand, at least over here:)

Yes, but for the usual $300 for a complete 5-lug set-up you get - bigger sway bars, rear discs, more tire choices (15"&16") and the option for about 5 different Porsche rim choices. Very little cash investment for a major suspension / wheel upgrade. Mi dos centavos.

Not a bad idea & I see where you are going with the suggestion. Maybe down the road. But my car has newer brakes, struts & alignment.... and it was good enuff for Porsche & VW at the time, so it might be good enuff for me.

I put yokohama avs es100 on my '79 in the past. They were 205/60R14 I think. Pretty sticky tire but never got those tires to the track. They had more than enough grip for street driving. I dont think they make that tire anymore but 205 wide had more options at that time.

Interesting Brock. No problems with rubbing. I assume factory suspension height? I wonder what would be better, 205 or 190. Wider contact patch with the 205 but would it exhibit more roll when corner? With what you know now, would you make the same call on the size?

Kind of a question I've been asking myself with my 944 since I have 16"x 7 & 8 staggered. Too many options and I don't have the experience to rely on to make the best decision.

it was lowered slightly using weltmeister springs and adjusting the rear with the eccentric bolt. I did have a bit of rubbing when at full steering lock. I think it was the tire on the sway bar....but that car was in an accident before I got it so who knows how straight it actually was.

I didnt notice much tire roll but I never drove that car on track so didnt really lean on those tires that much. I did like the meaty look of those tires on a 6" rim (as meaty as a 205 can be lol)

Ive never had any other 14" tires so I have nothing to compare too.

When I put 225 and 245 on my current car it was way too much tire. On track it was boring and on parts of the track I was now WOT and not gaining any speed. Quicker lap times that day but not as much fun since the car wasnt wiggling around at all

I also ran 205/60/14s in the past. Not a lot of people make that size anymore. I really liked them on my 77.

Anyone running 205/70R14 on their stock 14" rims?

I really like the look of the white lettering on the BFGoodrich Radial T/A but they don't offer a 185/70R14
