So I finally managed to pickup a reasonably priced set of front koni shocks this week and have just finished fitting them. Not sure if I am expecting too much here but I was disappointed to find both bilsteins leaking (5 years old)- especially considering I wanted to fit them to my 944.
Incidentally at the same time I built my car a friend also built a 914 track car using kyb shocks and they are still in great condition.

Bilsteins are known to seep a little and still function fine.

KYB are not as good as they used to be, IMO.

GR-2' are just OE equivalents and are not "performance" units. No matter what their marketing department says.

They are also poorly made and cheap, Sachs or Boge are much better for OE equivalency.

Daniel
I had original socks on my car when I bought it 6 years ago ( and tyres) I swapped out shocks for bilstein and have a regretted the delicious. They are just too stiff for nsw roads except highways. A few hours on the car is punishing, so the long drive enjoyment has gone. I also think they are adding more stress to. Other suspension components life rubber bushings etc. so that will have to be addressed soon. I did a lot of searching when I bought them vs konis, and landed on bilstein. I wonder if konis were a better choice in hindsight, as they are adjustable.

Picking up parts I start flipping through a parts brochure on the counter at a local parts supplier and notice a KYB advertisement;
Rear shocks for €25,- a piece.
That's a terrible low price IMHO.
Doesn't seem to be my cup of tea…

Here is a recent publication of Bilstein by Bilstein that might interest 924 race drivers. Two pics included.

I hope your Koni's turn out well.
Kind regards,
Harm.
