Friday went down to an open lapping day at the Pueblo, CO track, about 2.2mi and primarily flat. I joked how the car has been driven about 100 yards around the driveway this century, it was a true derelict. It actually ran quite well, started off driving the parking lot at 15mph then out on the track. Amazingly nothing fell off. The wheels required multiple torquing as all the studs were new. The oil temperatures got up to about 250F before the cooler with 6 bar pressure. Water temps stayed at 180F. I currently have some old stock type brake pads on the 944 caliper/rotors and it stopped amazingly well compared to the stock disc/drum 924. It seemed to run straight down the road and not pull to the side, I frankly don't know enough to judge understeer/oversteer at this point, but nothing was obvious. The amazing thing was the power, it really accelerated compared to a stock 924. I have about 10.1 compression using the 931S2 pistons with a mildly ported NA head with about .045 quench, an Elgin 66-15 cam(262deg), MSDS headers, and 45mm Webers.

I found the usual assortment of problems, I have a Wink 5 panel mirror mounted to the cage and it is just in the way and too big. A Longacre convex mirror is probably in my future, it has to be cage mounted due to a lexan windshield. The 45mm Webers need the throttle return much stronger as it doesn't shut down well when off throttle. I'm going to change out the seat as ancient, short legged me can't get out over the Kirkey side bolster and NASCAR door bars fast enough. I have the 1980 Dp front end which is under 4" off the ground so getting this guy loaded on a trailer is a real trick due to an approach angle of about 8deg.

First race will be High Plains Raceway on Aug 11/12 and I need to get the carbs squared away better, I'm unhappy with the ignition timing and I'd like to go to a no mechanical advance distributor, but the distributor might need indexing one tooth and I am unclear on how to make that all work. I'll also get some better brakes (I doubt I ever got them really hot on Friday) check the alignment-again. and basically check every bolt.
