Well I just found out that for calipers with pistons on both sides you only calculate for the area of the pistons on 1 side not both sides so all that is all wrong, the 4 pot calipers area needs to be halved and then do all the math again..
Maybe I can just divide everything by 2 and be straight, I'll test it both ways and see..
OK I think its fixed but idk, I'd double check everything if I was you and going to use it all..
But only calculating pistons for one side of the calipers with pistons on both sides brings both the Volvo and Brembo front calipers right back on par with OEM 931 calipers area ratio calculations,,,
Therefore the 4 pot fronts should work just fine with the OEM rears because they don't really provide any more clamping force than the 931 OEM fronts..
Also looks like I could go with 48mm single piston fronts off 4 lug cars for my rears so I could be rear biased and turn the rears down for adjustment with a proportioning valve..
I guess I'll just try the Volvo 4 pots on front with everything else OEM and do some lockups with the GF watching to see what locks first when etc..
I'm too confused now.. Maybe I should phone a professional.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

I have just been informed that the later stepped masters have nothing to do with how much F/R bias the master cylinder puts out and they act just like both circuits off the same master piston..
The stepped tandem MC does not affect the bias. Stepped tandem MC's generate the same pressure in both circuits.
The stepped MC is to match the VOLUME requirements of the different circuits.
This diagram shows the pressure relationship in more detail. Note that the diameter where the rear piston is acted on by the front circuit pressure and the diameter where the rear piston generates pressure in its own circuit are identical.
So you have exactly the same bias as if you were running a 944 or 951 MC.
Cheers,
Mike
Does our MCs have the same sort of floating piston in between the 2 brake circuits where only one piston is actually pushed by the brake pedal and is responsible for all the pressure of both circuits? _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |
