Hi all!
I need some help with regards to building a CGT look-alike - but it's for 24 Hours of Lemons race, so legit $3000 body kit sets are out of the question.
The base car is an '82 924 Turbo with a GA16DE swap. Car performed beyond our expectations, but pretty much all the body panels got damaged due to me putting in drivers that shouldn't have been driving anything other than a Geo Prizm. Like, HPDE instructor material.
So, I've pulled the bumper/fenders, cut the damaged sections of rear fenders out, and now I'm making a CGT clone with a Nismo paint job, for shits and giggles.
What can I use to make "close enough" replica without spending big bucks? I can make anything out of foam and fiberglass, but I'd like to have as many "off the shelf" parts as possible. I have near infinite access to 944 parts, so, obviously, front fenders are the easiest.
What's the easiest way to make rear fender flares, hood scoop, and front/rear bumpers? Anything I can use as a template/core? _________________ 1982 924 Turbo, now Lemon |

I have a beat-up front GTS, from AIR, bumper for cheap. It will work for your application, I had to 'fix' it with bondo and strips of fiberglass after it fell off our truck onto the freeway a couple years ago. Can take a pic if you want, works with 944 fenders probably, or, the aftermarket GT clone stuff.

Front quarters are essentially 944 bits and you could probably use a 944 nose and a bunch of foam and fiberglass to build the front air dam.
Rear bumper is standard 924 euro, so I'd just compress a set of bumper shocks and skin the stock bumper with fiberglass and foam to get it "close"
The rear flares are going to be difficult. Those you'll have to take Gren up on his offer or start gluing and cutting foam until it looks right.
Or just graft on some 944 rear quarters and call it "close enough" because its LeMons and it will get trashed again anyway.
Have you looked at the D-Prod cars? That looks like it should be more of an option with some generic rubber flares for a Z-car, etc. and a deep front spoiler.
The hood scoop I've seen similar in JC Whitney and other cheap car mod catalogs for years.
Good luck! _________________ Stefan

Rasta, you crack me up
In the past 4 months, I acquired three 944s and a fiberglass body kit. Dan got a set of Cup wheels delivered and I might make an IT-S car. Most of the rest I can't use. Sooo, rather than store it, I'd rather it went in someone else's pile.
