|

Ok here goes, apologies if this does go on!
I recently bought a 924 and I have been working to get it running properly since I bought it. The car was starting to come around and did run all be it a fair bit rich and only will constant pedalling.
As it had been laid up for some time I decided to take the cam belt and aux belt off to replace and duly lined up all marks on the back of the top pulley (little indent but not a dot like in the Haynes manual, mine didn't have this) and the bottom pulley (little line on the back part of the pulley). All was set up and ready and I have even flushed the old tank and replaced the knackered in tank pump. The car turns over a treat but it isn't even spluttering!
I am lost for ideas as the only thing I can think it may be is the timing is out? The Haynes manual says I need to get the car up to temperature first however (see my frustration)! This is obviously a no go.
I have taken the plugs out and they look to be coated in fuel and the spark plugs seem to be sparking too as I inadvertently electrocuted both me and my helping pregnant wife! (She is ok though)!
Can anyone give me any ideas as I am at a bit of a dead end here! I will continue to swot up on my Haynes manual in the meantime!
Thanks,
Dean |

Check that the flywheel mark and the bottom pulley mark line up.
The flywheel mark is best for determining timing but the flywheel can be refitted wrong. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Replace the plugs, for some reason the 924 has a really hard time with washed out plugs.
Verify the ignition timing by verifying that the rotor points to the port for cylinder 1 in the cap when at TDC.
Then move to ensure that the plug wires are in the proper order 1-3-4-2.
Finally make sure all of the vacuum lines and air intake ducting is in place to ensure the CIS system is seeing engine vacuum.
Let us know how you get on. _________________ Stefan

The plugs are new on, the leads I checked and they are in the correct firing order.
I did have a leak on the air intake (the plastic part not the rubber) as it was kinked but I heated it up and reformed and this seems to have cured it as before I could see smoke/fumes escaping!
The CIS has been a bit sticky tbh and sometimes needs manual persuasion to get it moving again if it's been sat for more than a few days, could this be causing problems?
I have checked the spray pattern on the injectors and all but number 4 wee fine and 4 was duly replaced.
Thanks,

I will do that in a moment thanks, anything I should look out for?
The car did start before so I would have thought that wouldn't have been the case with a misfit flywheel?
Thanks,

Just rechecked the plugs and they are soaked in fresh fuel, checked the coil to find a faulty wire and whilst trying to undo the nut on the top one of the arms it completely sheered off!
So I need to get a new coil and hopefully I will get the spark back!
