According to Safelite:

Apparently somewhere along my cars life some dipstick glued the windshield instead of using the proper clips. I especially need the passenger side strip and clips but sourcing all three pieces and all the clips pwould be ideal.

Anyone have any ideas for me?
Thanks!

Put a later flush 944 windshield in and ditch the clips, etc.?

??? Windshield is supposed to be glued to the body?

The side trims are held in with about 16 clips. They can still be bought from Porsche. The side trims I'm not sure if still available. The rubber infill to the side trims is NLA.

The clips only hold the trim in place, the windshield is still glued-in.

From what I remember of reading the posts about this, the replacement windshields for the early 944's without the antennae have a spacer built in and all that is needed to install is to remove the clip mounts, glue the window in and replace or modify the wiper arms to clear the window.

There are a few different types of 944 windshields. There are also a few different installation methods & seals. The early 944 windshield is smaller than the flush mount so when brought up to flush mount height, it will be short on the sides. The windshield with the encasement is for flush mounting as it has the groove built in to hold the rubber trim surround. There use to be a larger windshield made (not sure if they still make it) for a flush mount that didn't have the encasement. You have to glue the rubber trim down or find a rubber trim that wraps around the side of the glass. You can find this trim at a glass shop in generic bulk, just cut to length. I used this method on my 951 racecar because I used a lexan window.

ECS tuning has the clips listed for around $9. Still too expensive.

I read in another post that someone who has already done it was going to do a how-to on putting a newer (late 944?) windshield in an older car. No more trim or clips. Flush mount. I bet a lot of us like to see that. I have to do windshield change too.

The late windshield is an easy job. You need the 87 and newer glass. This glass has a thick rubber spacer attached to the glass that spaces it up. It just gets glued into the same place after you remove the little stubs that hold the trim clips. The rubber part has the attachment groove for the rubber trim. It just gets pushed in after the glue sets up. I have this glass in my car.

The 85.5-86 glass used a metal spacer that slipped onto the pinchweld but it is NLA.
