hello all, upgrading a junky radiator, and figure i'll get some new fans to go with it. Does anyone have strong preference among the various aftermarket brands? Current thoughts are Spal (>$) or Mizu (<$), but quite open to suggestions.

Thanks!

while travelling home on a 850 mile trip my fan seized in the middle of nowhere on a weekend.
Pulled the shroud and fan off and found a generic multi blade fan from the local auto store fitted on the shroud with little mods. Been there 8 years and had no trouble.

thanks for the tips guys. Doing a quick mockup, it looks like I get pretty good coverage and reasonable fit with one big fan 12"-16". Two 9" also fit well, and I know there's the advantage of wiring them in series for slower/quieter operation at common temperatures. The double fan setup ends up slightly more expensive depending on type/options, but not really a huge difference. Thoughts or experience on one option over the other?

If you use a single fan setup, bias the position of it toward the lower-right corner of the rad, rather than the center.

if anyone's interested, i've attached some layouts of the various sizes/fitments using spal designs and some quick measurements on the rad, cheating the larger fans to the right. is this what you had in mind ideola? the 12 could probably stand to be moved down a bit still...

If you already have the two-fan setup with required wiring in the car, I would go with the first option to retain the slow-fan cool-down function.

Currently it is indeed the dual setup with the aux ac fan. That said, redoing the wiring from passenger seat fwd basically, so wouldn't be a huge deal to set up the one-fan harness. If I do stick with two fan, is there any real advantage in reusing the stock shroud? I'd imagine mounting two 9" spals flush would be fine, and with a slimmer/cleaner profile.

I wouldn't worry about the stock shroud, but I would consider crafting one out of sheet metal. Shrouding will improve the efficiency of the rad and the fans by controlling where the air is allowed to flow.
