I'm trying to sell it but the car is running rough as. It is hot over here at the minute (high 30's) and from 3000 rpm is coughs splutters and misfires. Just lost a sale because it ran like a bag of spanners. Took it for a 15 min spin at 3000 rpm to try to "clean it out" but no improvement . I'm no mechanic but would the troubleshooting begin with changing the plugs? If that doesn't fix it I'm looking at getting a mechanic to sort it so would that be checking the timing and altering the fuel air mixture????

Please help!

Start by checking the ignition system; plugs, wires, cap & rotor, vacuum leaks and Injectors for proper spray.
If the plugs were or are fouled (flooded or oily) change them, no amount of cleaning will make them work like new.

The timing likely isn't the problem unless the distributor came loose as it was running fine before.

How old is the fuel filter? Fuel supply (or lack there of) could explain this

Sounds like its running well below 3000 rpm so electricals may be OK. I would check for vacuum leaks in the air intake housing - the CIS depends on vacuum to lift the accelerator plate. Also check vacuum to distributor for spark advance. Hope that this helps. Peter

Wimped out and took it to a mechanic. He adjusted the timing which was a mile out, adjusted the mix as it was lean and gave it a good fanging. He also cleaned out the air flow sensor and throttle body. I changed the plugs and put new 98 in. Car ran a lot better.

The car is now sold. The rough running was the only thing from stopping the buyer. After the above he had another drive and paid up. There was still more to do but I'm no mechanic or electrician. It needed someone with those skills to really do it justice.

This is the end of my 924 ownership, glad I did it but doubt I will do it again, not because I don't love the car, more my skills just aren't up to it.

They are great cars.
