For those of you, who have Megasquirt, Haltech or whatever, where have you placed the ECU?
I'm looking for a good spot. _________________ Euro 924, 1976

On the optional factory storage tray under the glovebox.
Used Velcro to hold the ECU box in place and wiring terminals to connect the harnesses.
Serial cable is easy to reach since the laptop usually sits on the passenger seat or the center console. _________________ Stefan

On the shelf under the glove box. I do not use serial connection for quite some time, I have blutetooth module in the ecu and do everything wirelessly. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Aluminium plate approx 250x200mm to house ecu and a couple of relays/fuses point the loom straight at the firewall

Now and then I consider a Microsquirt. That little thing can be placed almost anywhere. _________________ Euro 924, 1976

Micro squirt is a bit limiting in the options and mods, requiring external modules so you don't gain much. _________________ Stefan

Jah, but thinking about it, I only need 2 external modules. Map sensor and ignition module.
Remember that I have a straight six engine in the car.
My plan is to lock the original distributor, install a 36-1 trigger wheel at the cranck and run a single coil. The reason for this, is to have something to drive the converter box for the tachometer. As far as I know, it has to be taken from the negative side of the coil. I'm afraid that a "weak" signal from the ECU doesn't work.
I don't have any plans on running wasted spark.
Microsquirt has two injector outputs, so I will have to run 3 injectors per output. Should be ok. _________________ Euro 924, 1976

Dunno about mega squirt, but I plan on placing my 6AL-2 programable where my evaporator is. |

924 tach works with regular "weak" signal, no need for inductive pullup. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

I'm busy Megasquirting my 931. Does anyone of you have a more precise location (fotos perhaps) of how to get the loom from there to the engine compartment?

I ran mine through the stock firewall grommet on the driver's side. _________________ Stefan

Are you sure about that on the early cars? My car is a 1976 model.
But it's actually not the tachometer itself that's the problem, it's the converterbox I have installed on the back, so the original tach can work with the 6 cyl engine.
This does not work with a "weak" signal, so I was told by the manufacturer.

The stock tach on my 79 works great with the tach output of the EDIS ignition module. I haven't tried driving it directly with the MegaSquirt yet. _________________ Stefan

I used 76 tach (with 8k rpm dial and red sector at 6500 rpm) directly from VEMS 5v and 12v outputs and it worked perfectly.
Exactly the same tach like on this photo:
