Hi guys,
After some advice on brakes! On standard setup what discs's and pads are you using on track?
May be a weird question but new to the world of 924's
Cheers |

Ive been using hawk hp+ most of the time, both on the na and then turbo. Woks well, good bite, never fades, and cheap. Dont forget good brake fluid like motul rbf 600. Its also very important to refurbish the calipers so they slide freely. Then you should be able to do hours and hours of fun track time! _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Do you mean front disc/rear drum, or vented for wheel disc? _________________ Toofah King Bad

FWIW, the rear drum setup is less than super fun on the track, and quite easy to get rid of. You might consider upgrading rather than investing in it. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Unfortunately it is a requirement in the race series the car is going in. Must be as standard, im a Porsche tech by trade and converting to S 5stud setup was first on the list until I read tbe regs of te series |

Yikes.
Well, you might look into custom shoes, unless you enjoy adjusting your hot drums between sessions.
What series are we prepping for? _________________ Toofah King Bad

I didn't have any troubles with the drums during my na years performance wise. Not even in endurance racing. But its annoying to keep adjusting them, which you will have to... Otherwise they will drag(overheat) or have to much play. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Read the regs, "as standard" makes no sense to me in this context, because many, many 2.0 cars were sold with four wheel disc. Does this mean if you start with a chassis that came with rear discs you have an immediate advantage over the guy next to you?
I doubt this is the case...certainly worth verifying with the sanctioning body. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I agree. Most sanctioning bodies allow change of a car within class *if* the part being added/changed/removed means the car stays in class. For example, if a 924 with rear drum brakes is classed ITB and a 924 with rear disk brakes is classed ITB, you can switch between disk and drum without penalty.
Can't speak for your sanctioning body of course. You'll have to check that for yourself. |

I used a set of R4E's on the rear of our stock '78 NA for two 24 hour races plus 3 7 hour enduros. Never had to adjust them during the race, and not much even after the races.
They actually stopped pretty darned well for drum brakes... _________________ 1987 924S SPEC car
