I don't know, but my guess is that this race car is light, rear engined and air cooled.... Love to see it in person!

Here it is, though it doesn't have the text on it, it takes 1min to add the text in prusa slicer before printing, that's how i did it. The clock is surprisingly loud with the ticking, I never noticed that in the car for obvious reasons, kinda nice in an old school way

Yes that might be correct, having worked on the 931 for so many years i long for something really really easy to work on, and to improve my wheel to wheel racing skills.

I think you may have seen it in my friend’s garage as it was one of the projects sitting there (the red one in the corner)
That one is not a race car but it is similary in construction.

Guys, I've been racing for over 45 years in 356s, 911s, BMWs, Benzs, VWs, Acuras and 924s. The biggest PITA is the 924 when it comes to engine swaps. I collected a bunch of 944 stuff to build an enduro car and finally realized that I hate the CIS and the complicated process to get it right so I sold all of it. I just converted my latest 924 into an H-Prod SCCA car with a better cam, lighter engine parts and more compression. The out and in process with the engine was a three day event that reaffirmed my dislike of the stock fueling system and complicated wiring (full throttle switches - really?). I could do engine swaps in the 356 and 911 in less than an hour.
If it wasn't for the great handling and brakes of the 924 as well as its competitiveness in the classes that I've run it in, I'd go back to the air cooled cars that Porsche provides.
Well maybe not since their checks need another zero before the decimal point.
If Morgan can provide a system that makes the 924 more plug-and-play put your orders in.

Im in a different spot here, I really like the CIS. The euro version is simple and It worked perfect for me, and its taken the power increase really well. Lots of other stuff under the 931 engine bay is less fun to work on though. It looks simple but takes hours and bloody nuckles in reality. But many more modern cars are much worse in many cases to work on, spend hours to remove stuff before reaching the part you want.

Here it is anyway, me and a friend (Eirk whos supercharged 76 924 is seen sometimes around here) went to pick up this weekend. Its a 1970 Formula Vee, the brand is VeeMax (F1 driver Keke rosberg started in one of these), a finish designer who made competitive formula cars back in the day. It runs in the vintage class, which is one of the largest racing series in sweden funny enough, we dont have the newer ones here like in the US. We have two subcategories of vintage vees, both run the 1300engine at around 70ish hp, and this one weighs ca 380kg(837lbs). This runs in the subclass of the newer cars since it have the more "modern" ball jointed suspension. The grid is spread out with pretty much 50/50 in the two classes, but i wanted a later car since the best drivers are in that class and the cars are a bit racier. The whole point is to better learn wheel to wheel racing, and of course enjoy the very friendly environment in the paddock.

This car has spent most of its racing life racing the big tracks in europe at different vintage events with a finish Drivers. He then sold it back to sweden (to the owner who first bought the car in 1970) where i bought it. The guy was sadly going blind, he used to work at VW motorsport back in the day and had lots of stories in the stash.

Anyway, i have some small stuff to sort out, seating position being one of them. The car is incredibly tiny, the cockpit is so narrow you can barely move the shifter. Long term i will want to sort out lots of small stuff, but hopefully i can race it sometime this summer. Engine is just rebuilt, so some kind of running in must be carried out.

Not my car, but it shows the frame design. Kinda different to the early bathtub ones.

That is awesome!! There's an air cooled engine builder near me and being into VWs as well as the 924, I am slightly familiar with the class. Pretty amazing to have 70hp out of a t1 motor. That thing must really scoot. Driving fast with that steering box though has got to be really twitchy.

I didn't realize they allowed 1300s in though, I thought it all had to be based on a 1200, and all link pin front as well. Having a ball joint suspension you will have a lot less maintenance! Makes sense there would be different classes though.

With the limited air flow of the single 30 carb and intake its impossible to get lots of hp out of it, but on the other hand they seem to last pretty well which is nice when no one is going to f1 anyway, and the car is light and our tracks pretty small, so it works well. Back in the day in the 70s they got twin carbs and slicks etc and went faster, but nowdays here in sweden pretty much all of them have been rebuilt to the period spec.

But as you noticed we are at 1300 here instead of the 1200, and theres other differences in what you can do with camshafts and porting etc, and of course the front end. Even the older cars here with king pin front ends run 1300s no 1200s exist anymore, not that races anyway. In the US they kept the 1200 and old front end but instead continued the class with modern chassis up to this day (they do similar in some european countries).

Regarding the steering box, this one i think needs a rebuild. Ive only driven one Vee a couple of years ago that i borrowed for a race and that was pretty good, if i didnt know i wouldnt have guessed it was a steering box thing, some bump steer is inevitable though, but that also differs depending on the steering setup.

heres some pics and vids from the weekend and it was loads and loads of fun! i was surprisngly fast, even led the whole thing for half a lap, though a slightly amabitious overtake resulted in a colision in race two.

Now i need to sort out one of the rear driveshaft joints which seems to eaten itself and made the rear left all sloppy, and fix the steering box which also got worse over the weekend. At least i know the car and me are proper fast, the racing was great and the pit ambiance is great with loads of helpful people.

The 931 is a few nuts away from start up, not sure when it will happen, but soon hopefully !

Mr 924Racer pointed out that my oil filler funnel didnt work with a strut bar, so i tried it and it didnt work with mine either. So I redesigned it with a different geometry to be able to snap in with the bar in place
