|
|
Hi
I do some modifications on my 924 turbo
I mounted a full 968 suspension setup
everything is ok but I need to get the speedo back.
on the 924 there is a speedo cable going through the hub shaft to give the wheel rotation.
the 928 hub shaft do not have this hole so it nee to be done.
I asked a specialized shop
he's not afriad regarding the strengh of the part / shaft drilled (it's 2/3mm thicker than the 924 shaft) but it seems complex to do a proper drill
as the drill is doing an angle to avoid the cable to be directly on the damper leg.
he's not confident to do that as the part itself is not really easy to "lock" to do the job
did someone already do this modification ?
any pics ?
I will appreciate your help
I know electronic to mecanical speedo box exists but the reviews are not always nice on those parts
so if I can do a full mecanical mount it's better |

I did the same 968 conversion. I used the ABS sensor with an universal VDO speedo. _________________ 937 trackday car

Yes it can be done.....was done nearly 20 years ago.
From memory, using the 924 stub as a guide, a hole was drilled from the stub side first, to the depth of the 924T, and then a larger hole was drilled from the back side to accommodate the speedo cable flange. Worked well. _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |

What was the end result of your wheels/tires with respect to the body? Did the outer edge get 'pushed' outboard? If so, by how much?
Also, which wheel offsets are you using?
Apologies to the OP for slight OT.
FWIW - I'm not aware of how you can use the OEM mechanical speedometer with the electronic GPS speedometer. Perhaps there is some conversion item that does this, but I haven't read of one anywhere to date. Seems like your only options are 1) drill the spindle and route the cable as before, or 2) convert to the electronic GPS unit. _________________ Jay Wellwood
