Any advice would be great!!

timing belt instantly if its a 924 2.0 turbo or a 924S 2.5... there interference engines and a broken/slipped belt gets you an internal engine crash...

what exact kind of car is it? year? -- this is good to put into your signature so everyone instantly knows witch 924 package you are referring to when you ask questions..

until you are certain that the timing belt has been renewed; to start the car is a big gamble and the odds are not worth betting on...

parts and info.

info?

if you have a 2.0 engine this here sight is a motherload of information, unquestionably the authority on the Porsche 924 with the 2.0 n/a or turbo

if it is a 924S with the 2.5 engine then I believe that would be more of a rennlist.com thing... it is the same engine as the 944 and those guys go more in depth on it than here... not that these guys don't know though

the best way ive found to search these sights is to make google do it instead of the search feature.. most forum search features are lacking in general.. butt

google search ( site:924board.org "search terms" )
or say ( site:rennlist.com "search terms" )

parts?

ebay is a good source of parts sometimes, depends on what your looking for...

most parts come off of parts cars, your not going to be dealing with the dealership/auto zone style places much because these cars are so uncommon..

the forums are the best way to get your non wear parts, in FS/WTB threads..

however rennlist charges you for the privilege of postinf FS/WTB, this sight does not..

I hope I have been helpfull

do you know the last time the FOES (front of engine service) was done? witch is the timing belt service on that car....

im tellin ya, it will self-destruct like an evil villans lair if the wrong belt breaks or slips or comes off because of things like the tensioners, water pump, the belt its self etc..

a lot of vibration while idleing sounds like it could very well be a simple vacuum leak... or about ten thousand other things I suppose, lol

check for vaccume leaks the best you can and make sure your ignition is in good shape, check the condition of your plugs/wires... a weak spark plug could cause a miss at idle but fire at higher rpm...

after you are sure of the FOES that is...

Excessive vibration is likely worn motor mounts (same as the early 944) with perhaps the need for a good tuneup (plugs, wires, cap and rotor, oil change).

If the timing belt is 3 years or 30,000 miles old, I'd plan on replacing the belts, hoses and water pump at the front of the motor at the very least.

Good luck!

Fasteddie, he wants his car fixed, so he's in the right spot. In case you haven't noticed, some of us have been working on these cars for decades and know everything about them. Rennlist is full of seventeen year olds that are just figuring this stuff out and it turns into a soap opera if you try to tell them that their bubble gum repair won't work.

Actually in my experience many of those "kids" have migrated to 944online leaving some "core" folks at RL which seem to float between sites and there are the racers over on the spec 944 forums which are a bit more hardcore, but know maintenance inside and out and also how to go fast for reasonable money.

The 951 guys are another ball of wax altogether

i had some vibration at idle that smoothed out if i gave it a little gas. it was a bad engine mount.the passenger side goes out first because of the exhaust is on that side. i got a new set from ebay and not too bad a job replacing them both and what a difference that made. just something to look for. welcome to the board.
