Hmm, I'm not usually one to nitpick... but this one looks like it has had a respray. The original decals have been replaced with vinyl stickers placed in the wrong spot. You won't get that decal off without taking the paint with it...
Also, the window sticker is fake. There are lots of things wrong with it but there are items listed as 'standard equipment' that weren't even available as options on the 924S. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

| granted that 924s sticker is lower than is should be (maybe hanz sneezed when he was putting it on at the factory) but this thing has 3500 miles on it and that single stage red paint is tough as cement. worst I've seen is this paint oxidizes and gets a little pink but it comes right back up after a proper polish. I went to the dealers site looking for more photos and the car isn't anywhere to be found. the rims are 931 turbo and to my knowledge I don't think they were an option in 87. |

Pcelenta, there is a template the factory used to install the decals. It would never be installed crooked or too low. However, that's not even the decal, that's a vinyl sticker.
So if this car is truly that original, where are the correct wheels? And why does it look resprayed. The window sticker a just a copy/paste of an early 944 with just the year and model changed at the top.
If it is original, great! I love seeing them, but something doesn't seem right about this one. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

Actually it was possible to order the S with those wheels. They are even shown in one factory publicity picture. _________________ Mikko

The window sticker lists the wheels as the standard "pressure cast alloy wheels".
This car has only the standard options, (and some are wrong for the year and model) listed. It has base price as 22K... the actual base price of the 924S was just under 19K in the US. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

| I agree that placement of the decal is suspect to a respray. But its tough to say without giving the car a look over. If the car does indeed have 3500 miles I would expect the dealer to be able to document it. |

When I was looking for my 924S about 2 years ago I came across this car for sale in Colorado. Owner emailed me these pics. Does it look as good in person as in the pictures?
Dealer is asking $24k?

I would definitely expect the dealer to know whether the car has 3500 miles and a respray or not, but that doesn't mean they're honest... they are knowingly displaying a fake window sticker. It has their address at the top, as if it was delivered to them in 1987. It has the wrong options for the year and model. If you are going to sell a car, why not use 2014 values and say the car is worth $10k or so? However, the window sticker was remade in the original 1987 money... not a problem if it were real. A 924S with with those wheels would have been about $20k in 1987. So, they've just made up that price.
Loading up the 924S with options didn't make sense, because you could buy the 944 with far more standard options for less. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

I gotta tell ya that sticker isn't off much at all. I looked at these in 1987 and my local dealer was in the 27k range. I was dissappointed because I was really hoping the be able to get into one for the low 20's. I happen to have Road & Tracks guide to Porsche in front of me (dated nov 1986). They list the 924 at 19,900....standard equipment- a/c,electric heated mirrors. pwr windows. Sunroof option was $730 and am/fm/casset $657. all in was $21,287 That doesn't include destination charges.
like most porsche's imported to the states they were often loaded up with options for the US consumer (versus strippo versions available in europe). leather, lSD. quickly added 2k (1987 dollars to the price) |

Stripped down, the 924S was sub $14k. The US version had most of what you listed as standard for $19k. With optional wheels and destination charge, you are looking at about $20k. The 944 started at $23k with a long list of options and the 944 turbo started at 28k, so why in the world would anyone buy a 27k 924S? _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

its all about timing. the early 1987 924s came out late 86 and the base was 19,900 (this is right from the press kit issued to PCA). BUT after Nov. 15 ,1986 the prices went up and the base 924s was 21,900. again these were base and don't include options like the sunroof which initially was a $730 option, metallic paint $483, blaupunkt. you could add limited slip and a rear wipper. so it is easy to see how the price would creep up quickly.
you also have to remember that this was a very volitile time for the dollar versus the deutsche mark and porsche was constantly raising its prices to keep up.
as of 9/86 the base prices were (again from press kit):
924S 19,900
944 2v- 25,500
944S- 28,250
944 turbo- 33,250
so back to this one for sale: I'm gonna guess this was a late 87 so the base went up again from from 21,900 to 22,995...throw in the sunroof and destination charges and you have almost a 25k car in 1987 dollars. |

Again, it is fake, so they are asking a fake price. That is the options list from an early 944. The US spec 924S came standard with a sunroof and Charleston sr-26 cassette deck. Only the euro cars without air conditioning retained the 90 amp alternator. Also, the brake wear indicator was not standard and this 924S probably doesn't have it either since this is clearly a copy/paste. The 924S had completely different options and standard equipment. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

This thread is hardcore, I can't believe how much knowledge you guys have on these cars. I'd hate to be the salesguy. _________________ 1982 931- Stock with MBC at 8psi

Meh, I'm just nit-picking. If you don't want people to complain, then don't fake documents. Someone out there is going to spot it! There is much more wrong with it than I am saying, but the last thing I want is to make it easy for these guys.
Oh, and here's my factory window sticker.
