|

Hi guys. I'm looking for the cheapest place to buy fuel components. More specifically an external fuel pump and the accumulator for my 931. I have tried the usual suspects like Pelican, EBS, Paragon etc. but they are not cheap and they carry a limited supply. If someone can share a cheaper vendor with me it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,

I should ask since I'm assuming, are you usng EFI or CIS?
For CIS you might look at the local Porsche dealer, Sunset Porsche or give Munich Motorworks a call since they can sometimes sell parts at a reasonable price. _________________ Stefan

My car is CIS. The entire system is either new parts or rebuilt by John at Special T. I dont really want to spend the money a dealer wants for those parts. I would rather buy aftermarket for the pump. The accumulator will have to be Bosch I understand but there must be an auto parts place that is a hidden gem of cheaper than average ?
When I get back from this stint in Alberia I will have a new motor to i stall. The head is being ported and having the big valve kit installed, 88mm pistons in the block with Total Seal rings, knife edged crank with scraper, new 915 pressure plate, ARP rod bolts, Cometic gasket, new water pump, new turbo, ceramic coated NOS exhaust manifold, and on and on.
Im fairly excited !

OT: if your installing a "new turbo" then you might have an old one if your not just rebuilding...
I am having a heck of a time chasing down a quality replacement turbine wheel/shaft... the only part I need.. if you have one, I'm interested... _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

I think people have been having luck with Walbro for the external pump. Also AutohausAZ has the accumulator for less than I can get it wholesale.

So it turned out that AutohausAZ does indeed have the best price for a 931 fuel accumulator that I could find. Thanks again Rasta man. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

So now that I have the accumulator sourced and ordered I am on to the main external fuel pump. 3 options I can find:
1) Bosch 69466, listed on Autohaus for $178
2) Bosch 69430, listed on Autohaus for $123
3) Walbro, from Ideola for $145
Any comments on either of these from the Peanut gallery ?
TIA,

I would (and do) use Bosch. I don't trust walbro.
The 466 is stock replacement. 500kpa 175 L/hr
The 430 is a genaric replacement 500kpa 128 L/hr
The walbro 604 is listed as a replacement for the 430 but not the 466 so I'm guessing it has less flow than the 466.
Since your car is modified, I would use the 466. |

For those that don't trust Walbro, understand they are a major OEM supplier and many so-called Perfromance branded pumps are actually Walbro's.
For a CIS car I can understand a concern, but as long as the specs correct if have no problem going that route. _________________ Stefan

I have no issues running a Walbro. As a matter of fact, there have been numerous discussions here and other forums by people looking Bosch replacements, either for price issues or like me, because they've burned through several Bosch pumps.
I think 924RACR & Rasta have had good luck using Pierburgs in the past but I'm not sure of the availability.
My $.02, YMMV... |

Thanks for the input guys. Because I plan to nix the in tank pump I think I will go with the big 466 Bosch. Considering that the Walbro will be about $160-165 shipped and the Bosch is only $178 shipped I think I will pay the extra couple of Lattes and get the German OEM.
Looks like that is about it for sourcing parts. Just waiting for a few things to ship and for John at Special T Auto to get off his ass and rebuild my fuel distributor and WUR. Now I just need to get home and get this shite all assembled hopefully in time to go to the Portland meet up.

Just because it is an OEM supplier doesn't necessarily mean you get the same quality in a non-dealer replacement part. The secondary market doesn't always get the same exact part. I'm not sure about now but walbro had a lot of failures a few years ago (some blamed on knock offs) & their warrantee program sucked. You can usually tell the quality of a pump by the amount of commutator bars. It also doesn't appear that the walbro has the same supply capability of the 466. Why spend all the money on an engine & try to a save less than $20 on a pump?

Thats exactly how im looking at it. The difference between the Walbro and the Bosch 466 is less than $20. Im not going to chance it im going to get the big boy original. Considerig I just spent over $5k just to rebuild everything it would seem kind of silly to skimp on twenty bucks..
