That is a reseller site, and resellers that don't specialize in Porsche (much less the 924) frequently mis-label product. Note that all of the images are generic file images, and not the actual part. This is your first clue that something might be amiss.

According to several other sources I've looked at, the 0403 is a VW/Beetle strut insert, and not a rear shock absorber.

I would recommend using the 1042 product because we know for certain that it is the correct part for your car.

Reviving an old topic.

I am looking into replacing my shock absorbers. I have the following shock absorbers in my basket

Front: 34-001042
Rear: 24-001618

I am still strugling with two questions:
1) Can I keep my stock springs, or do I need to order a set of lowering springs. If so, What shoudl I get?
2) Will the front shocks slide into my existing struts, and do I have to cut modify anything? Or is 34-001042 a complete strut?

No need for lowering shocks unless you really want a lower ride height.

34-001042 is a strut insert, not the entire strut housing + assembly.

Those inserts are direct drop in into OEM strut housings, but they do have a larger diameter; consequently, make sure to completely empty the old strut housing oil (used for cooling the strut insert), and replace it with a smaller amount of 10W40.

Thanks Dan,

So, to make I understand you correctly. Is it just a matter of disassembling the existing strut, cleaning it out (with carb/brake cleaner?), dropping in the new insert with some 10W40 for lubrication and reassembling the strut?

Yes. Take the top nut off, remove old strut insert, dump old oil, clean, put in new oil (small amount), install new strut insert, install top nut. Done.

Just to confirm

We can't use the Koni's with the stock springs? In this case (the '82) I am looking for the best compromise between performance and comfort. I would think adjust-ability helps with both?

I know of no reason you can't use Konis with stock springs. The issue with Konis on the 931 is that the adjusting doohickey at the top will put a "reverse dent" in the NACA duct on the hood.

Adjustment is for rebound only. The "shock" from hitting bumps, etc, cannot be adjusted out of Koni Sports.

You might consider Bilstein. I ran them on Shaggy and found them pretty good, and quite a bit less expensive if I recall.

I believe the difference is Compression/Rebound settings.

I found this info on one of the Bilstein websites:

34-000403
150/95

34-001042
150/120

No idea of the units (Pounds, Kilograms, Newtons, etc)
