|
|
Hi all, posting this up on here because it applies to 924s.
Today, I wired this radio into my friends 86 944 (round dash)
It was pretty simple, you buy a reverse wiring harness, the following is what we used. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-OEM-FACTORY-Radio-INSTALL-WIRE-HARNESS-PSH-V1-/200570061714?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3APorsche&hash=item2eb2e84392&vxp=mtr) either chop up the stock harness or figure out how your car was wired before, as most 9(2/4)4's have had their radio wiring chopped into pieces to accommodate a standard DIN radio, and splice it into the reverse harness. There are four speakers in standard 924's so the brown connector handles those, make sure the Porsche radio you buy does not need an external amp and you can avoid using one.
As of right now, the radio is working, and the only problems are that I was lazy at that moment and didn't find a switched power source (was working roadside in the cold, will fix tomorrow), and the antenna connector is too big to fit in the CR-220 antenna plug-in, so we will have to splice in a connector that works.
So if you want an OEM-looking radio, without using an amp, get a CR-220! We got this one for 10 bucks off a Porsche enthusiast who was selling off parts. _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.

I installed CDR-22 (European version of CDR-220) into my 924 back in 2006, perfect fit:

My friend didn't have a radio before this, and damn your steering wheel looks great! _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.
