|
|
Hi everyone...
I have removed my very old fuel filter and picked up a new one from a general part supplier for my 924 turbo.
the old one has 12mm fitting's on both ends, and I have an even older used one in a box the same.
I can not seem to source one with equal size fitting's on both ends, the only ones I can find (including the one I brought)
has a 12mm on one end and I think a 14mm? on the other.
I brought some new hose, and had the odd end of the new filter tapped to fit the closest threaded hose barb available locally,it does not have a face to mate up with a copper washer.
It did not seal and sprays a fuel mist out at the thread once up to pressure,I then brought the only fuel resistant thread seal I can buy here and put a generous amount it on the thread and left overnight but it still comes out under pressure.
Any good ideas guy? |

| Not sure of your case but sometimes you need to salvage the connectors from the old filter. They unscrew. Otherwise, I'd say reach out to Dan at Ideola's garage and see what he can tell you... |

As I read the Porsche Parts and Technical Reference Catalog fuel filters for the 1980 924 turbo up to VIN 93 A0150418 are part number 931 110 149 00 and look like this:
Fuel filters for the 1980-82 924 turbo above VIN 93 A0150418 are part number 931 110 149 01 come with fittings and look like this:
From what I can tell by looking a several part-sellers in the U.S. filters with fittings are sold separately from those which do not have fittings -- the filter is the same -- just the 01 extension indicates fittings are included. |

Again, I think it would depend on the year and VIN. See Fuel Injection Section 924 Garage Parts Listing.
Summary of that link:
**924T 1980 #931 110 149 00 Fuel filter up to VIN 93 A0150418 Bosch 71020
**924T 1980-82 #931 110 149 01 Fuel filter Bosch 61967, Purolator # GF-145R
--
But note the discrepancy pointed out there in the Fuel Injection Section of the 924 Garage page and also discussed at the end this thread for the 81-82 924 and 80-82 Turbo: 931Tech 924Board.org
So if this info from these three sources is good, then Ozzie you probably re-used fittings when the 71021 was installed on your '84 which would have to be non-turbo??? |

O.k so this morning I got a young man/women? (could straight up not really tell even when squinting).....at a parts supplier to track down a 71021 it has both ends the same and ships with fittings and copper washers. There are some in New Zealand and he/she will price me one on Monday.
If I google the part number It appears some guys have had the exsact same issue as me with some 911sc's.

The Purolator gf-145R is what is in my hand...this was the reference point at the store today. |

So today a filter arrived It is a Hengst filter model G3831.
Same Diameter as the old one and same fittings.
Replaced fuel line as well today.
Re-checked-no leaking etc.
Problems......car seem like it's not getting enough fuel?, It idles and starts O.K. but It seems I'm not getting enough fuel through,I can "just" drive up and down the road.
$150 NZD later this is doing my head in,
any clear and solid ideas? |

Suggestions roughly in order of ease of checking and likelihood:
(1) Check spark plug gap and condition; leaks in air intake
(2) Check for continuous smooth operation of sensor plate
(3) Check output and spray pattern of injectors.
(4) Check (if there) EGR valve operation (apply vacuum and see that ball moves from seat)
If these are OK, then check for fuel system air leaks, plugged air cleaner, proper compression, correct ignition timing, no water in fuel, continuity of ignition wires when cold and when warm, operation of cold start system shutdown, and (rarely if it's not felt in driving) clutch slippage.
With CIS, improper warm control pressure, cold start valve leaking, idle mixture adjust CO level, and problems with fuel distributor, warm-up regulator. |

Good point -- that turned out to be the entire solution to my [non-turbo] poor performance, and I understand the turbo takes a bigger hit that a n/a. |

JasonO,

+1
car ran "o.k"
Overall I've had issues with some engine missfire... it has got slowly worse over last 8 weeks, "on boost" it stays hidden and feels fine.....
If I don't let the car warm up for 10 min it's also total dog to use.
Just want to replace old filter (It's looks very old) I tipped some fuel through the filter backwards, a tiny bit of thin brown crap came out with the fuel, but that's it.Took this as a sign to replace.
overall so far
New Plugs- rechecked seem fine.
leads are newish -tested resistance with meter "seem" fine.
New Injectors- 200km's ago.
New coil last week.
New fuel line from outlet of filter to "mixture control unit"
I have just been going through things One at a time, and trying to teach myself some stuff as I go.
Fuel filter has been a 1 month saga just to get one to fit,May not be the solution but as It appears rather old and I just want to replace regardless. |

So today poped the old filter in to be sure if I'm chasing the right area...no change, car idles o.k but under load miss fires and run pretty bad,Only other thing Iv'e touched is replacing the short hose
(haynes manual page 116 number 18 )
as the old one was split, took a little wiggling to get on maybe I've upset something?,will take another go next week. |
