|

OK, So I bought the chrome phone dials I found on EBAY. YES, they are chrome plated, not polished aluminum and they are original Porsche rims. They are 15x7 ET 53 offset. They fit my '87 924S great with no clearance issues around the wheels, but what I am worried about is the tire size. My front wheel lips have been rolled up so there is a little extra clearance there. The tires on the rims are shot and don't hold air so I couldn't run them to check. On my 6 inch rims I am running 195/65-R15s and the chrome rims have 215/60-R15s. I am thinking of running 205/60-R15s since they are only 1.3% shorter and my speed will only be off by .8MPH (slower) at 60MPH. This will also give me a little clearance around the tires. Everything I have seen says these tires should clear without any issues, I just want to hear from anyone out there that has run them before I spend the money for new tires.
So the question is, will 205/60-15 tires fit ok on an '87 924S ??
If the205's wont work, what size tire would be recommended on these rims? |

| Well, I think I am going to go with the 205-60's in the front and 215-60's in the rear. I think that will still be good for clearance issues in the front since they are a little shorter than the 195-65's on there now. Now its just a matter of finding a nice set of tires for the rims..... Its hard to find some matching tires in that size around here, most dealers are dropping a lot of sizes for 15 inch wheels. |

Tirerack.com. I use Discount Tire to do my mounting and dismounting (for now...hoping to get a tire machine this winter). Not sure if you have those down your way. A lot of the big name chain stores won't install tires that you bring in. Maybe try a small independent shop. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| It looks like i am going to go with General AltiMax HP tires. They look like a good performance tire with a 50k warranty and I can get a matching set in 205/60 and 215/60 mounted and on the rims for under $375 localy. I have looked at tire rack before and with shipping and mounting costs they dont seem to be any cheaper than the local shops. Tire rack and discount tire dont carry this tire either, so that makes it even easier. |
