Went to a car show today (Porsche, BMW, Mercedes) and didn't see one 924. Only one 928, one 968, and a few 944's. Granted I didn't stay long as my little one was acting up, but the field was awash in 911's. Whatzup widdat?

Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

The front engined cars are the red-headed step children of the Porsche world. At least that is the feeling of many Porsche enthusiasts. Only way around that is to start showing up with your 924s.

Personally, I'd rather drive my car than take it to a show, but an informal gathering can be fun and most of the 911 folks I've met are really cool and like the front engined cars.

I've always taken whatever classic I've have to any show I can,For me It's three fold....

Point of difference....Variety is the spice of life and even if it's just a glance it makes interest for people,a line of 911's is nice...but most people just see a line of 911's.

Market....I know I get excited at a show, I even like going to them, maybe a prospective buyer will do the same and will stimulate the market a little.

And finally....The social side!,It's cool just to hang out with people, make acquaintances and chat...That Dentist with the 964 might be a douche but hey he might have a set of boxter rims in the garage his wife keep tripping over.

KC don't feel bad. When I lived in NY I always went with my 924 and the 931.I was the only one with these cars. I never went to any event with my 87 Targa. Why, because there would be maybe 60 of them at the show and nobody cared. I was a judge often at the Metro Porsche events as well as the club photographer. You should join the club as they are a nice bunch and have about 40 events a year. You should look up Peter Potzinger in Huntington who has his own Porsche repair shop. Let me know how you make out.

You know, I have seen this more than once. In the "domestic" car show crowd, if you don't have a Mustang, Corvette, Camaro or one of the select muscle cars, your just taking up space. I took my 924S to a couple shows and received the same feeling. I even went to the Stoddard swap & show and I might as well have ben driving a Honda from the looks and comments I received. What people at these cars shows done understand is, we are all there for one reason, to show off our cars and the enthusiasm we all have for custom, classic or collector cars. It seems if your done have an endless check book and trailer your "prize" around, your not good enough, and God forbid if your car is a "daily driver" ........

Prior to my 924S I have had many domestic cars that I took to car shows, but my best performer was a 2003 Taurus station wagon. I won 23 trophies, including 5 national awards, over a 2 1/2 year period going to car shows. This mad so many "classic" car owners mad many times questioning why a daily driver Taurus could beat their garage queen.

Now to my 924S, I have taken it to a few shows already. Yes it is a daily driver, I have put almost 10K miles on it in less than a year and I love it. Its also very clean for a 25+ year old car. I won top 10 at a German car show in Penn earlier this year already. Then I took it to a Euro car show. Yes there were $100k new car there, but I had a lot of interest in the only 924S at the show. I enjoy having something that is not "common" at the shows and enjoy it even more when I get more interest than the bank account parked next to me.

What I am getting at is take your "orphan" to car shows and be proud. Clean her up like a garage queen and be proud. Show that you have pride in your ride and make it look its best every day and that will be the best reward / trophy you could get.

Lack of 924s?

I Think we were a total of 13 924s in total that meet . Its an 80s car meet, many of the cars who cant find so many shows to fit into shows up here. Really nice if you are tired of e-types and 911s. This must be some kind of modern 924 record, especially with 4 931 (one not in pic) at the same place! Was pretty cool to roll in all the cars at the same time, the organisers looked confused when suddenly and endless line of 924s came out of nowhere
