Thank You !
I need something like this.
I use standard shaped performance filter and it collide with the retractable lamps so in the end I run with lamps standing all the time...
Hope this kind of filter will help me. |

Been driving the car for a bit, thought it was time to up the boost pressure a bit further... Who wants to know what power it made at 2 bar?
I do... all I can tell is that a rod did not a agree and decided to leave the engine.
Have a spare engine, the plan is to build that with forged internals. (not going to do the k-swap on this car anymore, think it is more fun keeping the original engine) |

I would love to know.
How many revs when it let go? Con rod bolt maybe??
Glad you're keeping the same engine. Are you staying with original rods or going aftermarket?
Very interested in your new plans for the engine _________________ 1979 UK 932 |

OEM 924 NA iirc..
DutchPug - All I can say is YOU ARE MY HERO.. Thank you for doing this, you are a true inspiration..
I would also like to know if it was a rod bolt that let go and what the pistons look like. Are there any other signs of engine damage or accelerated wear from running it so hard? Any signs of impending doom or just WHAM? _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

And that is Euro 924 NA with 9.3:1 CR. I am guessing around 400whp at 2bar. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Totally agree. Thats sick from 2L 8valve dinosaur engine lol!
I'd put money on the failure being a con rod bolt.
Will be following the new build for sure. Good luck Dutchpug _________________ 1979 UK 932 |

Even if it is a rod bolt, it still proves that these engines are very strong even with stock parts.
If I am not mistaken, Pieter revved the engine a bit higher with new cam and that may very well be the root cause of rod bolt failure, not 2 bars.
If it was not a bolt, but a rod, then it is probably high limit of the rod itself.
But truly, there is no point spending loads of money on lower end, better to spend it on making the head flow better and focus on the engine management. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

So..hypothetically of course...What do we suppose one would have to do to imitate these numbers with a '80 931 Engine? Is this possible?
For a guess- With a fresh block rebuild, slightly larger injectors, and a 4" straight pipe with a 20 PSI wastegate...What would you suppose power numbers would be at? (and should I invest in a really big fire extinguisher) |

931 pistons and rings are weaker than 924 NA, as weird as that may sound... _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Thanks for the support .
Knew I was taking a risk with the engine, but if you don't try... you never really know
Had the rev limiter at 7200...
The rod of the first cylinder broke about 2 cm above the big end. The big end is still nicely attached to the crank .
It happend on the high way; had just done a full pull through fourth and shifting hard in fifth. The rod snapped after spending about a second in 5th gear. It snapped out of the blue, no signs indicating its will to leave.
Have not pulled the engine yet, but the gaping hole in sump makes for easy viewing.
The plugs looked perfect on all cylinders, except for the first, where the piston gave it a little kiss; it only closed the gap of the plug |

That was my guess. The rods are quite heavy and could not cope with the hugely increased tensile loads. I have never dared to rev the 924 engine past 7k on regular basis... _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
