According to Pelican Parts, the radiator expansion tank is roughly $100 and needs to be sourced from Germany. That is awful steep for a silly piece of plastic that's only purpose is to hold water under pressure.

Are there any alternatives that can be used out there that I don't have to order from Germany? $100 is an injury by itself but having to order it from Germany and pay the extra costs for it just insulting. Ironically, I have all of the plumbing necessary for the darn thing, it's just that the PO apparently miss placed the original tank.

You can use a 944 unit, but it will still cost you.

I'd see if someone is parting a 931 and buy theirs (provided that it doesn't leak, heh)

The 944 unit bolts onto the top of the driver's side fenderwell (under the quarter panel and one bolt into the side of the fenderwell just ahead of the fuel filter on a 924 NA).

I don't know what is needed to adapt a 944 tank to a 931, but for my 924 NA it wasn't very difficult, just ran a couple pieces of generic heater hose from the radiator to the expansion tank.

Luckily, the 944 is more common so the tanks are a little easier to come by used. I would urge you to clean it and the radiator before using them. Mac's Radiator on Foster has done great work for me in the past.

Does our expansion tank have a fluid level sensor built into the top?

Neither of the ones for the NA or the 944 did. I idont remeb seeing one for the 931.

So it turns out that the coolant expansion tank from a 1981 Scirocco fits nearly perfect on the mount. The Primary difference? The expansion tank from the Scirocco costs about $12, and the Porsche expansion tank costs about $120

You betcha it is! Volkswagen + Porsche = 1:1

Meh. I'm waiting for the fuel pressure tester/primer to arrive. Other than that though, It's pretty much ready to go. I'm sure there will be other troubleshooting issues when the engine is running though.

Yes,same one I use on my 81 931. Cost about 16.00 with cap. All you have to do is replace the hoses going to it with slightly longer ones. Total cost about 20.00. Been on my car for 10,000 miles,no problems at all. Regards;Chris

Bought the Scirocco tank to replace my leaking original in my 931. The bottom hose inlet/spout is smaller than the stock one. I was wondering if people have just cinched down the larger hose, or gotten creative to size it down with a reducer, etc.
