So I have been spending the last 2 days removing the original relay panel to replace it with a new one, clean the ground crowns etc and just basically do a once over on all of the electrical connections. I am almost done and ready to install the new relay board and I found a burnt wire hanging in the main mass. I followed it to the headlight switch and have looked it up in the factory manual but that's where I get stumped. It is a 0.5mm Wt/Bk wire that runs from the switch to T1a. I am not quite sure what T1a is ? Can someone please help ?

Thanks,Leigh

Headlight washer - should be +12v only when headlights are on.
Should go to switch near ashtray and used to activate headlight wash motor (if fitted)

No I dont think so. It terminates at the relay panel somewhere. That's where it burnt off. The car didn't come with headlight washers so it wouldn't make sense that it is burnt. Its always the last wire too that ends up a mystery ! D'oh

This is on the 80 931?

T1a is a connector. T1 means 1 wire connector. I don't see a 0.5mm wt/bk wire from the light switch. Actuslly I don't see a 0.5mm Wt/Bk wire at all anywhere.

It's on an '81 931. If you look on page 97-80 of the factory manual. Coming off the bottom of the Light Switch are 2 Wt/Bk wires. One is 0.5 and one is 2.5. I am looking for the other end of the 0.5 wire. The manual says it goes to T1a,headlight washer....but where the heck is that at the relay panel ?

It comes off of terminal 56 of the headlight switch. It is the feed for headlight washers. Since you do not have this it is just hanging not connected to anything. If if is burnt it means it was shorting against something and would be live when the headlights are on.

This is a common thing for accessories that are not on the car. Porsche just left leads hanging with a plastic connector at the end. You will probably see two leads in the engine compartment just in front of the big rubber grommet with a rubber sleeve covering the ends. These are for connecting the headlight washers and fog lights and are not connected to anything if you do not have the option.
