The intercooler is in.
This is it. It's L2A and American. The PWR barrel cooler would not fit nicely between the engine and radiator. This is one has a square shape and fits better.
Everything between the turbo and IC and TB is now plumbed in.
Here's a stack of photos from different angles
The bracket screws will be replaced with allen heads. Here you can the see the water line on the top part of the IC.
This is from below the turbo.
This is where the piping curls round to the bottom part of the IC.
Here you can see where the water line will go into the bottom part of the IC.
This is where it connects to the IC but the photo is taken from the other side of the car. You can also see the bottom bracket for the IC.
A long view.
One that hit me looking at the plumbing is the width of it and the short lengths between turbo and IC and IC and TB. I think this set up will have pretty good flow and little lag.
Next to go in is the heat exchanger (in front of the AC condenser) and the water reservoir and pump (where the windscreen washer bottle currently is). _________________ 1981 932 with mods:

something not sitting right with me on that placement, maybe just aesthetics but it looks crammed to block radiator flow and gather heat from the turbo...
just playing devils advocate here...
951 intercooler converted to water cooled modified inlet/outlet, turbo compressor rotated 180 degrees
sorry George, I can see you've done alot of work here not having a go at your what you've done so far as it looks great...
P.S when re you getting this dynoed, be curious as to who you're using and if they're any good...

Dude, you've got some serious fabrication art going on in that engine bay. Impressed! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thanks, guys.
I went and had another look today and there has been even more progress. Talked to the guy doing the fabbing. He's very modest. Here are some more photos.
So there's now an alum top radiator connection. On the right you can see the coolant tank for the IC. You can also see that the hot side pipe from the turbo is now wrapped to reduce heat build up behind the radiator, ala Stu's point about possible heat issues.
Another shot of the coolant tank.
Here's the cold air intake that goes down to the stock oil cooler location. The L-shaped shiny thing in the corner is the new windscreen washer tank, made from the charge tube! It's hard to see but it's got the '924 turbo' script running along the side near the wing. This piece really shows the fabber's skills.
The BOV.
The rear of the inlet manifold.
The top radiator 'hose' radiator connection...
and block connection.
New catch can, now on the driver's side.
The cold air intake from underneath. You can see the stock oil cooler at the bottom of the photo and the new catch can at the top left hand corner.
This shows the coolant pump near the horn.
Two more shots of the coolant pump from the other side, the second pic is a bit out of focus.
The heat exchanger in front of the AC condenser.
Another shot of the wrapped dump pipe.
When I left the fabber, he was putting in the braided hoses for the IC coolant. Mechanic reckons if heat is still an issue as Stu has pointed out, then we will try a second core on the 951 radiator, as there's room between it and the AC condenser. Anyway, things are traveling a lot faster now. _________________ 1981 932 with mods:

I would suggest also picking up a quality turbo blanket to wrap the hot side of the turbo. The exterior of the blanket will be cool enough to touch with your hand, which I wouldn't attempt to do without a blanket, even with the ceramic coating.
Quality turbo blankets are around $80-$150 _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Also, your new 'L' shaped washer tank might interfere with closing the hood. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

I think it sits low enough not to cause a problem, but I'll check it out tomorrow.
Thanks,

the hood reinforcement rib is the clincher, suprising the top of the stock reservoir is tapered quite alot, if you have to take some out then it's no biggy...
it's a nice piece of creative bling,
it might work otherwise if you rotated it to sit inline behind the headlight...
custom fabrication, you gotta love it... but be prepared to make everything 3 times...
almost ready for another drive with the beast... got my hoses back on and systems now bled, fans kickin in and staying cool...

You're right, it keeps the hood up a few millimetres. Will get it dropped a bit as there's room underneath there.
Thanks. _________________ 1981 932 with mods:

The end is nigh...
Everything plumbed in now
BOV fitted
Turbo oil lines plumbed in, and turbo blanket on order
Idle control fitted to rear of inlet manifold
IC pump plumbed in
Air filter to go in
Bracket for coils
Not much room between IC and pulleys
Next week (i) alternator, (ii) fill with coolant and check for leaks, and (iii) dyno! _________________ 1981 932 with mods:
