The frankenstein CGT clone is up and running. Well, on jack-stands anyway~! With Flosho/Jason's help, with a base-map download, and some nudging here and there, the engine is running. The Painless Wiring kit, 12 circuit fuse block, and 8-switch panel was not too bad to install. I still have turn signal and wiper options left to consider. The MegaSquirt II and Relay Board was a bit more involved.
To the end, I had to re-do the TPS VREF signal, and eventually the signal return ground, to finally get the injectors to work. And, there was a miss-understanding on my part about the injector wiring itself. I thought that one set of wires on one side of the injectors were grounded to the engine. Ooops, no, one side goes to the relay board and the other side, collectively, goes to a 12v power supply. I hooked that side up to the Accessory Switch on the Painless switch box. Perfect.
I was most concerned with the Ford EDIS setup, but, not a problem. Monday, I'll do a few more things like install the radiator, rebuild and install the brake calipers and new hoses, cut a hole in the hood for the GT top mounted intercooler, install new bearings in the front hubs, rears are done. Mount some crummy tires and give it a go! _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Congrats, I suspect that much like tuning Webers, tuning is never done on a MegaSquirt II.... _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

here's a short video, finally quit smoking at idle, which currently is at 1100 or so. O2 sensor readings surge back and forth between 14 and 15. Which is a lot better than 10 when I first started!
I have to reroute the fuel lines and FPR, so ignore that~!

She seems to be running quite smooth for first start up! Much smoother than my first few minutes of start up back in the day... _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

I think I'm still having issues with the TPS. I've taken resistance readings on each of the wires to fine VREF, TPS, and TPS ret. The last I assume is the ground? Anyway, when I think it's correct, the needle on the TPS 'gauge' fluctuates wildly from 0 to 40 at idle. I'm done for the day, think I'll let it set for a bit. Have more mechanical things to finish. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Rebuilt all the brake calipers today, ugh, those pesky little springs on the rears, and getting the outside pads on the fronts to fit, grrrr. New oem rubber brake lines in front, braided steel for the little section in the rear. Had to replace one 'nipple' on a rear hardline. Bought an OTC brake line kit for bubble style lines. Nice, looks factory.
Bled the brakes and the clutch master/slave. Tightened up any front suspension bolts/nuts, remounted the wheels, lowered the car, started it up, put it in gear, and............................forgot to attach the rear axle shafts.
Oh well, it's sunny and in the 70s here in Arizona, the beer is ice cold, and I'm pooped. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Well, after a few beers in the sun, went back to the car, and regreased the axle shafts, and installed the bastards. Car moves.
Tweaked the EFI some, basically unhooked a secondary power supply to the relay board that they said was required! Anyway, the engine screams up and down the RPM scale. Nice. Less smoke too, and that will take a bit to lessen. Tomorrow, have to install a Sparco Evo 2 Plus seat, brand new I got on CL for 250 bucks, and then, taking it out on the road. With a cell phone for back-up~! Snort. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Funny, I always had a cell phone with full battery with me while tuning! _________________ [This Space For Rent] |
