Congrats to drivers Merritt Scott Collins and Hayes Lewis for great weekends in their 924 ITB racecars this weekend!

Hayes was at Summit Point, WV, in the old Chris Marsh red/white car (formerly #55 - think it's #6 now?)... from the Cliff Notes I got over the phone, he finally got his first checker (win) Saturday, followed it up sounds like with another on Sunday, and then played with some other races in a handicapped relay enduro race! I'll let him fill in the details (and hopefully post some pics and video!), but congrats!

Merritt was driving our old #77 car (though wearing the solitary #7 this weekend) at Mid-Ohio for a season closer SCCA Double Regional and 1-hr Enduro. Conditions, not unlike Summit Point, were cold, and mixed dampness as well on Sunday. Merritt qualified 2nd for her race Saturday, and hung on to take that 2nd place trophy in the race - while also moving up to 4th overall (having started 9th!) and dropping nearly 3 seconds off her previous best time on the Club Course!

But the Enduro was immediately after, and she was gridded 11th out of 34 cars, needing to stop for gas etc. between sessions! We pulled her off the pit lane, did our best to refuel and restart, but weren't able to get her to the grid in time - so she had to take the green from the pit lane. That said - the car was already hot, so no need for a warm-up lap!

She had a nice steady pace set for the Enduro, and promptly started in on further improving her lap time. She ended up pulling another second off her best, coming away nearly 4s faster than back in July when she was last at Mid-Ohio. However a late spin cost her time and laps while waiting for a pull start (thanks to an overheated starter). Then, once she was restarted and back running, a full-course yellow came out for a much more substantial incident (SM's and SRF's getting together, go figure). This lead to a few laps while trying to sort everyone out behind the pace car, but then the enduro ended up getting checkered early due to the size of the cleanup - leaving Merritt with the ITB win, her first checker!

Sunday wasn't quite as great; the track was even colder, wet, and worse off, grip for the afternoon race was virtually non-existent. It was a slow race of attrition, and Merritt again suffered from a spin without a restart... once restarted, it was very difficult to keep the car on track, and she suffered from numerous other spins - though now getting enough practice (!) to keep from stalling the car and so was able to continue and finish the race. Tough going to cap off a long, cold, wet weekend - but still excellent experience, and still bringing home the hardware!

Mud-Ohio sure lived up to its name this weekend, and we're glad the season's finally over - it's been a long, grueling year, with 8 race weekends and half of them out of town - this was our 3rd visit to Mid-Ohio this year, a new record! But it was worth it, and the experience and confidence gained will pay off in triplicate next season...

Congrats again to our intrepid drivers for a strong finish to the season! This'll make the off-season just feel even longer...
