I am looking to refresh all the control arm bushings and ball joints in the front of the car. I want to stick with good 'ol rubber. I also want to go as reasonable (read cheap) as possible. I have a very late 931 with the below type of control arm/sway bar setup.
Can I use MKI rabbit parts?

I see whole new VW control arms ready to go for less than just the rubber from Porsche.

Also, the current ball joints are riveted, does that mean they are original?

They are the same control arms. You can also get poly bushings for really cheap I can't remember which part I used off the top of my head but it was under 30 dollars for the set and much better than the rubber. Also for the ball joints you have to drill them out, not that big of a deal. The new ones will come with nuts and bolts to hold them in.

Drill the balljoint mounting holes out to use 8mm bolts (instead of the 7mm ones provided) and gain a little more strength in the process. Just make sure they are the same grade.

Shop around for A1 or MK1 VW Rabbit bushings and you should be able to get them fairly cheap in polyurethane. I don't believe the rubber Porsche ones are any different than the VW rubber bushings.

The rabbit control arms may not have the same sway bar mounts, so be aware there.
