Hi All,
Just looking at some options for engine swaps, whilst keeping it Porsche.
I'm interested in swapping a 944 S2 3.0L 16V into a 931, the main fabrication required is the cross member. Just wondering if anyone has pics of a modified 924/931 cross member to match the 944/968 engine mount locations?
Thanks,

Raceboy had pics of a crossmember he modified to fit a 2.5 since the 3.0 is the 2.5s larger brother it should be the same. I'll see if I can find it for you... _________________ 81 924 N/A

. . .and fitment of the bellhousing and torque tube, and mounting the gearbox. This is a monster project.

Not to mention wiring, adding the ECU, plumbing etc, etc. Whilst it may be a lot of work, other than the cross member, it's a matter of bolting in the later model parts.
The engine is already out of the car (I bought it that way) and the transaxle was just bolted up for transport on the trailer. That's why I'm thinking about this now, the car is already half pulled apart.
The other option is rebuild the bottom end of the existing 931 engine (probably add forged pistons), K26#8 hybrid turbo (the current CGT turbo has a munched compressor wheel), 951 FMIC, modify inlet manifold and add EFI (if you say that really quickly, it doesn't sound like that much!!)
Both options probably require an upgraded transaxle (probably 951) if I'm going to use the car for track days and hill climbs.
It depends on if I want to modernise the original engine, or just fit a more modern engine............. |

Good luck getting rod bolts for that 931, they don't exist. That was one of the main factors in me desiding to get rid of my 924. _________________ 81 924 N/A

Someone will pipe up if I am wrong, but I don't beleive the 968 gearbox will bolt into a 931 tub. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Surely there's something in the ARP catalogue that is just about the same size, even if they were slightly larger in diameter, you could machine the rods to accept them. I'm sure I had something similar done with a Datsun rally car engine I had years ago. We used big block Chev rod bolts in Datsun L18 rods from memory. |

I believe all you need to do is adapt the 931 mounts to the transaxle. The 968 (O31) mounts the same as the 944/2 cars using a removable crossmenber. But it has already been done. _________________ 84 944--924 Carrera GTS clone w/520HP Chevy 302 V8--RUNNING!

Hmm, thought the 6-speed hit the spare tire well. _________________ Toofah King Bad
