Engine is finally buttoned up and ready to go. When I get the wiring harness it will be time for a bench fire! Today I fabricated a non-bypass oil filter adapter as the old one had been broken when the engine was pulled.
pan finally painted and installed with new magnetic drain plug and reshaped oil baffle inside.

Filled with oil today and primed. Engine showed 50 lbs of oil pressure at the starters rate of speed. _________________ 87 924s

Do you have any details on the electric booster? I've been trying to find info on them and I've hit kind of a wall. I've seen a bunch of Teves units used for ABS, but I haven't been able to find out how they get wired up for non-ABS use. _________________ 1980 924 (for sale)

I was about to order the final parts to join the engine to my TT, but progress has stopped due to questions about the clutch slave cylinder. Initially I was going to use the internal slave/throwout assy, but the more I think about it the less I like the idea. This was aggravated by the fact that TPC lists a corvette external slave part number among some of the items on their shopping list. I was going to use the internal slave because of clearance, but apparently it is possible to fit the external slave in there. i have asked questions on their board but nobody seems to know much. I want, if at all possible to use an external slave for ease of future repair or replacement. v8carerragts, you have been reading about these project cars for alot longer than me, and maybe you know some definate details about external salves?
On a happier note, my wiring harness and ECM are on their way, my engine is closed up and ready to start and I have 90% of my clutch componets. Im shooting for having a driver by spring. _________________ 87 924s

You could use an external slave. The original kit from Renegade Hybrids used an external one. Here are some pictures from the member 944LT1 from 944hybrids (from before he converted to an LS) There is probably a late Camaro bellhousing that has an external slave that would probably fit.

I think that the camaros that used the lt1 had a pull type pressure plate setup. I have already bought my flywheel and pressure plate which is a push type. The clutches from the late 80s camaros i think would bolt up great but the arm that mounts the slave sylinder sticks out pretty far. I am worried about clearance issues. _________________ 87 924s

The C4 corvette with the 4+3 trans had a external slave cylinder that was very compact and bolted against the side of the bellhousing. It used this slave:
I know that the C4 bellhousing isn't too common and are very pricey but maybe you could use this with a custom bracket. _________________ 84 944--924 Carrera GTS clone w/520HP Chevy 302 V8--RUNNING!

Ah. I've seen them before. I thought you meant more of a junkyard solution. Their parts seem wildly overpriced for what I'm doing. If it's between that and hydraulic, I'll go hydraulic. _________________ 1980 924 (for sale)

I may be completely out to lunch here as I know nothing about the v8 conversions, but the '97-03 Ford trucks with the Powerstroke diesel somehow used the power steering pump to power the brake booster. It might be adaptable in this application, and there are a lot of those trucks around, lots of Ford folks including mechanics had no idea this was how the brake booster worked. _________________ Mike

Yeah, that's the hydroboost he mentioned. There are actually a fair whack of vehicles that use it. It's pretty common on the V8 swaps. _________________ 1980 924 (for sale)

Spotted a chevy monza bellhousing that caught my eye. The throwout lever spans the entire inside of the bellhousing and sticks out very little. Question is will it be compatable with my 1988 camaro 305 clutch and pressure plate? _________________ 87 924s

Still on a quest to learn more about the small block Chevy Monza bellhousing, but meanwhile I have plenty of crap on my plate. First order of business is to modify this wiring harness to fit my stand-alone application. The engine is OBDII but I opted to use a obdI harness and computer for easier tuning when I get to the programing part. I will have to change my coil pack and knock sensor to obdI as well.
Parts are stacking up in the garage, pictured is a carerra GT hood (behind white turbo) and hood scoop (hanging on wall) and rear wing (larger than 951 wing). Not pictured is the lsd tranny with tall 5th.

The Monza bell housing should work as long as you use a diaphragm type pressure plate. You will need to use the Monza clutch cable as well and figure out how to connect it on top.
I used this set-up on the turbo v6 924 I built in the early 80's. These parts are becoming very difficult to find now although the cable is still available on RockAuto. I sold one of these with a new cable a couple of years ago. The down side to this is you are limited to a 10.5" raised diaphragm clutch. _________________ 84 944--924 Carrera GTS clone w/520HP Chevy 302 V8--RUNNING!
