|

Bought a 931 engine today.
There is a badge 'Willibald tuning' on the inlet manifold and the engine number starts with 'HWT'.
The rest of the engine looks like a normal 931 S2 engine. The sump and valve cover have also been modified.
Strange thing is the DITC is connected to another box:
Anybody know more about the 931 Willlibald engine ? _________________ 937 trackday car

I did a little poking around online and found many references to Heinz Willibald tuning, was well known in the VW and Porsche 914 circles back in the 80's Seems he just died in November 2010.

Sure would be interesting to see what is in that box... I will be following this thread.

I will dismantle the engine later.
I have red on Google that Willibald also worked with Oettinger. _________________ 937 trackday car

More please. Highly interesting. A piggy back to DITC, from back in the day? Wow.
Speaking of 931 tuning, it reminded me of this...

Colin who owns 9M is a good friend of mine, we used to be in business together (long time ago!). Happy to ask questions about the 931 tuning article if anyone wants me to.
Cheers

I emailed them a while back and they said they wouldn't work on 924s anymore. _________________ Pete |

Colin used to own my car. He rebuilt the engine back in 1999.
I think basically when values of the 924 Turbo went down the toilet there was a lack of interest in the tuning/development work he was doing and no-one was willing to spend the money on what is essentially a low value car, so he moved on to more expensive Porsches.
Recently I've seen very good examples of the 931 selling for around £1000 which is a little depressing really.
I remember calling him and emailing him and he always seemed friendly and was happy to answer questions about my car and tuning the 931.
He is unbelievably good at tuning Porsches and has a lot of engineering knowledge so he's probably in great demand from the 911 crew and that's where the money is I'm afraid.
He's done work on the 968 and offers a supercharger package for those - I think in the region of 350hp conservatively.
I also remember him racing a particularly tasty 993 so he's probably a busy man.
It would be interesting to see what he could do now with a 931 taken to the nth degree of tuning. _________________ 1979 UK 932 |
