I have taken the engine out of my 924, and it is now time for a little cleaning up. I have removed the rubber insulation against the firewall, since it was in a terrible condition.
And now comes the question; what to use instead? _________________ Euro 924, 1976

I'm in the same position with my white 924. I tore the old nasty looking stuff off and thought that installing modern sound insulation but I would rather not have shining silver on the firewall.
Anyone knows any good options besides painting the silver one over? _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Put the new stuff on the interior side of the firewall. _________________ Stefan

Not bad, what material is that?
I have made an experiment with bitumen plates, and I don't like them. Out of the package they are quite brittle, breaks easily. If they are cut to shape with a pair of scissors, the edge looks terrible.
When heated, it bends easily, and can be pressed against any curved shape. When cooled down, it becomes brittle again, and breaks off in small pieces, when I make a destructive test, with a screwdriver.
Over time, I think that this material(bitumen) will be full of cracks. _________________ Euro 924, 1976

Had the same problem about a year or so ago, and searched and searched. Finally decided on a product (actually several) from Design Engineering in Ohio (designengineering.com) .
Bought the 'floor and tunnel shield' for the firewall......bitch to cut and mould, but worth it once done; and the 'reflect-a-cool' for other areas near the turbo.
I can recommend the products, and the company was a joy to deal with. _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |
