|
|
Hi I am being told that a 78 924 rear hatch has a different shape than a 80's 924/944 rear hatch IE the 944 rubber spoiler won't fit due to a different curve on the glass.
Can anyone fill me in on what these differences are. I have seen the 944 stock rubber lip spoiler fit a 924 in the past . What changed and and during what years ?
Thanks Ken _________________ Ken - ebay: wandrey1 , *0 , *00 , *01

I dont think there is a difference. I have seen the glass from a 84 944 bolt to a 81 931, and a 84 944 bolt to a 77 924. I have a 84 944 wing on my 77 924.
I have in the shop a 77 924, 82 924,84 944, 81 931 and one other 944. I can compare on Monday.
still need to get you the measurements for a floor board.

The 88 is geting very close to going under the knife ( or Saw ZAW )
you know you are near the end when going to pull a FT fender loose with the factory seam sealer lifts the whole car off the jack stands.
Its about time to put her on my low dolly, and let her roll one last time...
IE dolly: (some lawn timbers and industrial casters) works pretty good when engine and trans /susp is gone. _________________ Ken - ebay: wandrey1 , *0 , *00 , *01

looks like the upper trim strip needs to be replaced or cut to expose the hole for the side strip mount.
There are holes in the glass right? That stock early profile trim looks pretty thin.

The glass shape is the same, the moulding i different. If you mount a spoiler on a non spoiler hatch you need to drill the holes. When I attached mine, I cut the bolts off the hockey stick and used the metal adhesive. Worked quite well.
I did however take the time and drilled the holes for the spoiler. _________________ 77 924

Thanks for reply about mounting up a spoiler lip. So will the stock trim come off and reveal holes under the trim in the hockey stick area and lower main lip ? I have a guy woried about drilling through the stock trim not knowing if he will hit holes ( if they are there.) It looks like some careful work with a cut off wheel could shorten the upper trim so it could be removed and expose the upper holes if they are there - ? The stock trim will not/cannot be removed. The best and easiest way I found was to cut the stud from the hockey sticks.
When I mounted mine, the first thing I did was reference a hatch that had a spoiler attached. I measured the location and angel of the drilled holes and transfered this information to my spoiler and hatch. I used a center punch and used a very fine bit to make starter holes and make sure I had the clearance past the glass inside the trim. I stepped up and was able to change the angle accordingly. !! DRILL SLOW !!
I mounted my spoiler with stainless steel hardware to prevent rust. After the spoiler was mounted I lined up where the hockey sticks would go. I cut the studs off and removed some of the rubber backing to reveal the steel underneath. I also removed some of the paint on the original trim to make a clean surface for the two part epoxy to adhear to. I did a dry fit of the hockey stick to mark where I would need to expoxy on the trim. I mixed the epoxy and placed knickle sized daps to the hockey sticks. I lined them up and used bull nose clip from STAPLES to hold them in place. I let stand over night.
These suckers are tight!
I will click some pics if you like. _________________ 77 924
