A fellow with an 80 931 wants to replace his shot Porsche box with a audi unit.

What is the easiest way?

I figure the rear torsion assembly needs to be converted.

The body mount holes for the audi tranny to mount in the 80, is it there?

Can you cut off the 80 torsion ears?

Yeah. It'll bolt right up. However, I'd feel more comfortable having the donor torque tube on hand as well, just in case they're different - I'm not sure, didn't even try. The bolt holes you should find in there, might want to run a tap or a bolt into them before trying to install.

To convert a snailshell to a Audi box you need the complete drive train minus engine and clutch assembly, the torque tube on the snail shells has a small flange on the back end that bolts onto the gearbox,. On the Audi there is a large casting shrunk fit on the end to connect what should be the Audi's clutch housing to the torque tube (lovely engineering isnt it ). My '80 turbo has mounting holes for the Audi unit so I'm guessing all 924's came from Porsche with the holes. Shift linkages would have to be switched to of course. Also why switch from Porsche finesse to an Audi hack job

Note: I did not say that - I want it noted for the record that I restrained myself and made no references to an "Audi hack job", despite that exact phrase hammering through my head like the sound of an impact gun on a tight bolt.

lol
