Car has been rebuilt steadily over two years and I've taken it in for its MOT (UK test to be allowed on road every 12 months) but it's smoking quite a bit.

I assume it's the new rings allowing a bit of oil past, certainly seems to drive well and boost comes on ok (not taken it past 4000 RPM yet out of respect for the engine).

How can I bed the rings in if I can't drive it on the road?

Am I barking up the wrong tree by thinking it's the rings?

Please help!

Sometimes an improper hone will cause this. Run the motor at 3000 RPM for 30 mins under no load to see if the condition improves.
(If the oil control rings have a top and bottom, putting them in upside down will smoke badly. replace is the only fix)
If you can, do a leakdown test (best) or compression test (sorta okay) before and after the 3000 RPM run to see if the numbers improve. If they do, you are in luck.

It actually is pretty ugly as the history shows a Porsche respray in the late 90s (at great expense) and it's lifting all over the shop, the roof and bonnet are both awful!

Two-Tone green is of course the ONLY colour for a 924 turbo S1
