I've replaced my camshaft seal and it is still leaking. What's the trick? The book (Haynes) mentions a special tool. I changed the seal by loosening up the cam caps and removing the #1 cap, I slide the seal on, test drove it about 40 mi/64 km and it's still leaks. Could seal be for a different car/model: Audi, VW? I ran the part # on google and it shows it for a Audi A6 (026 103 085D). Is this part interchangeable? Does anyone have another part number?
Also, the seal between the oil pan and oil pump is leaking. Would removing the oil pump and replacing the that way be easiest? Or would removing the lower cross-member and then pulling the oil pan be the best way to go?
Seems to me pulling the oil pan would be the way to go? A little more work be but I can also have a-look-see at the bottom end. _________________ BillA
