Hi guys. Im carl, im on pelican some and picked up an 81. It had mixture trouble and I've found a bad internal pump so im changing the tb and shoring up some other stuff such as a bad wheel bearing and some leaking o rings. Compression was 119-121 all over.
Edit: im still waiting for the pump.

So.... questions.

What gauges and adapters do I need to test. I've seen it done and know the basics but now that I look at it I realize that I have more concept then knowledge when it comes to actually hooking up and testing cis. I guess im asking which kit to buy?

Is 120 good compression

Where can I get all those orings on the turbo side? Pelican has about half of them. Need oil filter housing and some others.

My front struts are broke. Going to get a set. Want advice. Will do shocks too.

Got ac fan working. Bummer the system is split. The defrost fan is toast. Im sure there is a write up with pics that someone spent alot of time on..... I want to upgrade the motor. Not a 944 part cause I want the flap. Ill be looking at some options from the rc world due to its size. Maybe brushless heli motor with an analog speed control or brushed if I can find the power I need. Has anybody done the legwork on this?

Option group on my window sticker (yes it came with the car) is g29.... define?

Odometer is toast. I've done the gear on my 928 before. Is this the same thing? Id like it fixed.

What fluid is everybody using in the back?

I need rear struts. Can't believe they ran the defrost through them. Source?

I know there's more and I know that's alot to digest. Thanks Rasta for bringing me into the light fir a board for my 931. Other than you all I get on pelican for my 24 is crickets. Lol

Check Amazon or Ideola's Garage for "CIS Pressure Tester."

Use the PET parts catalog for seals, etc. Not the cheapest route, but the surest. Call Sunset Imports with your list of part numbers. PCA discount.

Struts. . .hmm. . .Bilstein HD (great handling, cheaper, little harsh) or Koni Sport (spendy, but adjustable rebound and sweet sweet nectar for a street car).

HVAC fan. . .you will rue the day you decided to remove the HVAC unit. If you go at all, go all in. Early 944 swap? Documented here by -nick.

G29 is the WTF option. Common for US cars.

Odo requires teardown. Do site search for instructions.

Lots of good hatch strut options on EBay.

I did find the CIS tester I was looking for. Thanks

Thanks also about the orings. Already pulled all the part numbers and I'll call them this week.

Ive been into the HVAC on many cars. Looks something like this.

Now lets see if that picture works.

Don't I lose the flap with the 944 box? What are the advantages?

Have you tried bypassing the switch, and running power directly to the fan motor? The problem might be upstream of the motor, bad ground for instance. On my car, I didn't have the patience to find problem, and wired in a separate switch and relay. Always on high when switched! Still not much to write home about for these!

HERE are -nick's notes on the swap.

The later setup is more efficient and has better, more robust controls.

Fan Turns, bushings toast. Tried to oil it and little effect on starting. If I start it by hand it will continue to run if the switch is on high (indicating the voltage drop is working)

Rasta, main think that bugs me about the swap is the elimination of the flapper that closes the system when using ac. Does the early box have some other provision for this or is there always going to be a light breeze if you will?

Hmmm...... im out on that swap. After cutting the firewall on my 928 when I did the manual conversion im over cutting and welding inside. Next welding job is the cage for the spec racer. I think upgrading the fan motor is the way to go. Anybody have an old fan and housing I can play with? Id like to figure out the correct motor and also some discovery to see if there is a way to cut the old motor out and retrofit without too much trouble.

Is there a writeup on pulling the box?

Remove A pillar trim
Remove console
Remove steering wheel, switch cluster
Remove large instrument cluster
Remove dashboard
Remove HVAC box

Installation is the opposite of removal!

One more thing>

Anybody know the fan rpm or into rc heli's and has a blade counter? I'd like to have a baseline RPM so I get more flow without spinning the blades off the factory fan blade.
