@nick: did you hear last Nov when we were playing with the helicopter?? I always wondered how we got away with that one without any spy photos... wondered just how quiet that chopper was... |
Last November I was doing a job at the federal reserve bank in Atlanta. |

The car is awesome by the way. Driving Road Atlanta is on my bucket list they do track days out there but I'm usually short of the $250 when the time comes around. Last year I had the money but no car. Next time you race there let me know I'd love to see the car in person. |

Vaughan,
I will take all of the tips that you have!!!!! I know some spots that I can work on Road Atlanta (and overall for that matter) but I was off of your time there in 2009 by about 9 seconds. I know that only seat time will help, but tips from a master are always welcome
Oh...and only one ITB Golf ran in the race, the other was a Honda and only ran in the 2.5 hour enduro.....
Nick,
Thanks for the kind words! I wish I knew you lived so close, I would have dropped by. I'll let you know the next time I am down there.
Cheers,

@ Ian - if you've got the 5-speed in there, and you trust your engine build... you don't need 5th gear there! If you can run the engine all the way to redline, 4th is enough, which saves you a downshift at the end of each straight.
Saving 1 downshift at 10a means you're only going down one gear, which means you can go a LOT deeper into the corner.
Similarly, with no downshift required at 1 (since it's a 4th gr corner), you can just bomb through it, left-foot braking and carrying speed instead of worrying about any shifting.
Gotta track out of 1 fully to carry enough speed up the hill. Picking the line through 2, 3, and the Esses is a matter of seat time and using enough curb.
Turn 5, gotta use plenty of curb - I never got dialed in here, lost time and positions. The exit was easy, but entry was tough, and the car really needs to drop to 3rd here for the run up the hill. I never got enough practice to not lose too much speed with the downshift.
6 is faster than it looks, and of course 7 is all about exit speed.
11 (under the bridge) is pretty easy in an ITB car, being WOT, just have to line up the right marker under the bridge (aim for the yellow "flag")...

And a photo, for old time's sake...
