I need to replace my fuel pump Sunday and need to know what specs are vital. It might be aftermarket. Anyone with experience here to share? My mechanic said it might be worth replacing soon, as it had never been replaced and they have a tendency to go. I'm also grappling with some hesitation issues and it's a good time to throw some new parts at the car. Air hoses, new electrical connections and filters and fuel pump.

Sorry to be a little late replying, but consider also that, with a hesitation problem, you may need a new in-tank pump.
I had to replace both mine after getting my 931, the external because it didn't pump fuel, the internal since it was leaking fuel!
Have also more recently replaced the accumulator as it too developed a leak.

Well it's interesting you mention that...
I went over the fuel system this weekend, and the air, and the electrics just to see what could be improved. The list was long:
1. Wiring harness was worn, brittle shrink tubing, exposed wire.
2. Rubber tube beneath the fuel distribution unit, that goes into the turbo, was cracked. That'll cause ya hesitation, me thinks.
3. Rubber tube connecting intercooler to throttle body had a hairline crack.
4. Wiring exposed to rain via the hood scoop, including already dirty coil connections, and cap and rotor
5. Spark plug wire cracked!
6. Gas line outer sheath to fuel distribution unit brittle and cracked.
Damn. So I've got my work cut out for me. The Pierburg pump is 1st on my list. |

Yeah, I also still have to go through and replace all the hoses, both water and air... but need to improve the suspension and brakes first...
