So apparently my coil was weak, but that wasn't the actual problem plaguing my car.

My car will shut down when it gets hot. More specifically, it will shut down when the fuel pump gets hot. I hear it whine like crazy then the car dies. I believe that this is because I am only running a pressure pump. I converted over to a plastic tank and therefore am not using an in-tank pump. I'm thinking that this is making the pressure pump work too hard which is leading to it over heating.

My question is if I can use an aftermarket high pressure pump on a stand alone basis to overcome this problem or if I need to fit an in-tank pump?

If I can use a stand alone pump, what Lph should I be shooting for or does it not matter? Have any suggested pumps?

This car has been really frustrating, but I feel that this is my last hurdle before achieving a reliable car.

Thanks

May want to check for proper venting on your plastic tank. Also blockage at the pickup or a partially plugged fuel filter could be causing the noisy pump and shut down. If the pump is on its last leg a 5.5 bar or greater pump like the pierburg can be used. A lot of CIS cars were shipped from the factory without an in tank pump like many of the 928's.

I'll check both of those today. Thanks.

Would this pump be a good option?

I don't have any experience with that brand but I'm sure some of the others have. Maybe they'll chime in.

Walbro is an OEM supplier and the current favorite for EFI fuel pumps in the aftermarket world. Cheap and pretty reliable when compared to expensive options from other companies.

I don't know how it would compare to a factory pump, but I know they've worked well in the non-Porsche's I've put them in so far.
