Hi guys!
I did the search for oil dipsticks and couldnt find the answer.

This may seem like an odd request, but believe me, in a developing country like the Phil (and especially that old Porsches, like 924`s, are very rare over here), anything is possible for 100 & 1 reasons!

So anybody mind measuring the exact length of their early dipstick (the one that merely goes into a hole, and not a guidetube) from:

a) the end of the dipstick till the round metal stopper.

b) the end of the dipstick till the minimum mark.

c) the end of the dipstick till the maximum mark.

I am just trying to establish if i at least have an accurately measured dipstick for my 924, as i`m not sure if its the original dipstick.

Mine measures:
a) 210 mm

b) 16 mm

c) 38 mm

I would appreciate this as i am concerned for my engine`s longevity, which is why i`m a stickler for keeping my oil level at the full mark. THANKS!
patrick

I

1979 the early…

a) the end of the dipstick till the round metal stopper. ……… > 210mm

b) the end of the dipstick till the minimum mark. ……… > 16mm

c) the end of the dipstick till the maximum mark. ……… > 38mm

Code:
a - b = D ……… 201 - 016 = 194 ……… D = 194mm

a - c = E ……… 201 - 038 = 172 ……… E = 172mm

D - E = F ……… 194 - 172 = 022 ……… F = 022mm

1981 the later… (pics from the past)

1981 dipstick minus the extra lenght is Total minus Tube
430 - (244 - 25) 219 = 211mm

Code:
r) ……… > 211mm

s) ……… > 17mm

t) ……… > 38mm

r - s = U ……… 211 - 017 = 194 ……… U = 194mm

r - t = V ……… 211 - 038 = 173 ……… V = 173mm

U - V = W ……… 194 - 173 = 021 ……… W = 021mm

Code:
F - W = Z ……… 022 - 021 = 001 ……… Z = 001mm difference

Sounds safe to me.
HTH
Regards, Harm.

Harm,
I know its just arithmetic duhh.. but i will have to take a few minutes to correlate the numbers with the pics. I`l go with your conclusion though. Thank You for taking the time to do this.

Hi Harm, Thanks again for your (unexpected) response! Your replies will surely benefit anyone else with the same or similiar concern. I`ve rarely been getting on this great 924 website as i`ve had to help my dad out with his own classic car concerns. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Yes, that was the main idea: Collecting the info in one thread.

BTW
Printing the oildipstick image dipstick812010.jpg at 100% (no resize) should also be helpfull:
The centimeters should be accurate
Seeing is believing
Cheers.
