Hello all,
I was ebaying Porsche the other day and came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330405716970&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

From the description the owner explains that it is a 924 Carrera that was written off and so a 931 shell was purchased and everything retrofitted into the shell. Top marks for the seller explaining everything upfront however it makes me wonder what the car is .. a 931 or a Carrera.

wow, nice looking car, wayyyyy overpriced though, without proof of provenance. No VIN? Who's he kidding? I'll really do a nice job on my 931 Euro CGT clone this spring if I can get that kind of moola! And I'll paint it silver if that helps!

I'd be highly suspicious until I at least saw an engine pic; ultimately need an engine code to verify the claims. Even if it is a real CGT engine, I can't see it being worth $27K -- AUD or USD.

Its still just a heavily modified 931 in the eyes of collectors and its price would be severely reduced in comparison to an actual CGT.

Having said that, if this car showed up in the US I would be willing, on the spot, to shell out $10,000 for it... $15,000 would probably be my top end though. Still a far cry from this blokes asking price.

Yeah that was my car when last for sale. I didn't have all that much info on it when I sold it. I didn't buy it in victoria, so it hasn't been in victoria its whole life. The rego he quotes was mine, and it was only on that plate for a year so won't tell you much. I seem to remember the engine number is turbo not GT but not totally sure. I don't know who sold the car, but I think it was a NSW/ACT car not hamiltons.

So Chris - the $64 question. How much did you sell it for?

i thought all the Carrera Gts were left hookers?

never saw a right hand drive one, sat in Derek Bells car years ago at brooklands, awsome.

the fact is that the only place in the world that that car si worth that moolah is in his sweet dreamy head, its a written off rebody. god know what harm the original took and the parts could all be spurious, nope, not sold on me.

any of us here could build a STUNNER of a CGT replica, intercooler and all for waaayy less cash.

I seem to remember reading that there were 75 RHD CGT's built.

I would think that if the car was done meticulously and all of the original documentation was kept from the old shell it may be worth close to the price of the original. But it doesn't appear that way. It could easily be considered a replica.

Someone said on here it was their old car,
they think it only had a 924 turbo engine no,
the rego quoted was their old rego no,
It wasn't in vic its whole life,
they dont think it was sold by Hamiltons, etc.
Basically it sounds like the guy is full of crap.

Just a replica, and a real good (butt bull) story.

Its also only a Turbo body no. with a sunroof, did any carreras have a sunroof? what about rhd silver ones:roll:

924 OZY, Carris owned the car. It is the remaining parts of a written-off CGT put into a 924 Turbo body. There's nothing suspicious about the car itself, as far as I can tell (the current owner and his sales technique, well, that might be a different story). But it certainly is not a real CGT and its value, I think, is nowhere near that of a real CGT (and yes, paulsmaroon924, there were right-hook CGT's). But if it's still in the same condition that it was when Carris had it, it's a damned nice CGT replica. What's it worth? Well, it should be worth as least as much as a Series II Turbo, and probably just a smidge more, given the parts are actual CGT parts...

EDIT: And just FYI, 924OZY, here's the original discussion of the car, including a short blurb on its provenance.

I think its worth more than just a smidge over a 931. Depending of course on the number of real CGT parts... its at least worth what they would bring as parts and I imagine they'd fetch some serious money.
