picked mine up in san fran with a blown headgasket for $375... after your guys' help i was able to get it back up and going again, and then fix my error of having the valve adjuster 180* off, now shes running strong on all 4 cyl's
handed the keys over to my girlfriend tonight for her first drive, it was nice and really wet outside, i have had it stored out at the local small airport, so there is a ton of open asphalt to do high speed turns, donuts or whatever you want she took it easy tho, and i scowled at her for driving it like a 60hp nissan...
told her she has a tachometer now, and to never cruise or accellerate with the needle below the 2 and ideally between 3-4 is where you want to cruise at, and you want to shift at around 5, unless you feel like going really fast then shift right before it gets to the red.
doesnt the red mean thats bad? she says....
i say... its designed to go up TO the red, thats why i say shift before the red, and try to avoid going into the red. it wont hurt it to go into the red every now and then, there is a safetey feature that will prevent you from going too far into the red. but its good practice to stay out of the red...
now lets give it a try...
she runs through the gears, shifting correctly... but at around 5k...
great! i say, see if you go by vibration its just like the nissan, but now you have a gauge to double check, its not that much more work now is it?
now lets run it fast and shift just before the red...
she runs through the gears up to redline and comes a cruise in 5th... i say, what do you think? wow this car is FUN!
*huge grin on her face*
she was kinda scared to do some high speed turns in the rain... so we switched seats and i showed her how it was done...
the airport was dead, bad weather so nobody was coming in an out so i made some high speed turns through some of the taxi ways and did some slight drifting just to demo...
then i made a really bad one and spun around, just to show her that its not all fun and games, and you can cause an accident really easily with RWD if your not too carefull. luckily i told her the n/a engine doesnt have enough power to get you in trouble unless your doing it on purpose like i just did.
after a while i got her pretty confident in the car. i think she is ready for a track day now... wonder if she can keep up with me in my mk2 gti? lol
fun
sorry no pics, maybe ill go back out tomorrow and take some pics, and maybe a video or two... plus i kinda wanna drive it again.
i may be selling my mk2 GTi in favor of a 924 turbo if i can find one... |

yeah i was running it with a can of seafoam in the oil when we were at the airport... car was added to the insurance tonight, and should be registered on fri, and hopefully will pass smog
right now i have a few gallons of 91 and a can of seafoam in the tank as well, should help pass smog. only thing im concerned about are my make-shift volvo wires i found at the junkyard that fit, but they look to be in good condition. not sure if i will get the new bosh wires before friday, i had to order them.
now... on to crazedlist i go to find MINE hehe
i want a black red or white turbo model, maybe something that needs work if the price is right (like the aforementioned n/a) |

Awesome. It's always nice when somebody's project works out.
You CA guys seem to have it easy in that regard, though. I've been in the Bay area for a little under a week visiting friends and I figured I'd check out the local ads. There's no end to water pumpers out here, it seems. Home in MN it's hard to find any in the major metro area. I've been trying to figure out how to bring one back as checked luggage. |

Piece by piece. You got a big family?
With the luggage fees most airlines are charging, it's probably just cheaper to drive it back _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Just the two of us. Plus, no tools. Really, I think it's just a case of the airlines being greedy. I should be able to drive a car into the terminal and pay $15 to check it with the rest of my baggage.
I swore when I saw the shell you were getting rid of because it would have been perfect for me. No transport vehicle or time to get something that far away, though. |
