Got all the bits in to rebuild Sabine's steering rack. Blasted and resprayed the housing, turned out really well. Got a new bottom bearing, top bearings are waaaay NLA. Cleaned out the dried, caked on 40 year old 'grease', or what was left of it.
Cleaned the gears with Q-Tips and mineral spirits :
Found out the new Porsche tie rods are innies now instead of outies like the originals :
Finally sorted out the Powerflex bushings that were wrong. Thanks Carrera, you listed the correct bushing for the 23mm front bar for the M471 suspension set up :
More to come....

Getting ready for my long weekend at Watkins Glen with the 924. Took it out for a tech inspection to make sure it was safe. Car came out with a small but repairable rear wheel cylinder weapage on the right hand side. To be safe I am replacing both the left and the right, along with the hardware.
Also found out that I have a right rear brake light out. No problem I think I will check the bulbs, because I have never had a problem with the tail lights before. Looked at all the bulbs and they look good. Turn on the lights to make sure that the tail light comes on, and Nope! The right side tail and brake lights are not working. Not a good scene. I have 3 weeks before the track weekend and need to get it fixed. At least the signal light works. I am going to be looking around the ground and see if it has broken somewhere.
Small things but at least the car runs well and will stop even better by the weekend. _________________ Cheers;

Spent the weekend working on the rear suspension in Sabine. Pulled and thoroughly cleaned both arms and spindles, modified the Sh**ty PowerFlex bushings to fit, repacked the arms with new bearings, seals and grease and put it all back together again. Installed SS braided brake lines and brand new e-brake cables on both sides.
Got to use my 937 dust covers, lol. Saves about 17 grams of weight having those made from aluminum instead of sheet steel.
I will be taking next week off to focus on installing the gas tank and transaxle. The the following weekend the motor will go in and I will work on the wiring harness and ancillary components.
Shouldn't be long now until she's up and running to some degree. Then the cage will go in and all of the interior stuff I will do at my leisure over the summer.

Just a suggestion. May be worth cutting the torsion bar end caps off and drilling holes in the sills to be able to adjust ride heights far more easily if needed when setting up now or in the future. Offers more flexibility whilst you are putting it all back together _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

That isn't a bad idea. I have new torsion bars (26mm I think..) and want to install them but can't right now because the car isn't together, the weight is wrong.
The holes would show from the outside though right ? Anyone have pics of a car with this done ?

Holes will be hidden by you sill covers, assuming you will be refitting them?

heading out to the garage where the 924 is after work. We have replaced all the rear brakes and front pads on Sunday, but didn't have time to get everything buttoned up properly to get the car home.
While we were replacing the rear shoes, we also replaced both wheel cylinders. They were both leaking a bit. Part of the replacement we turned the adjusters all the way in, so after the first brake bleed and adjustment I still had non-existent brakes. Pedal would go right to the floor. So more adjustment tonight and another bleeding and we will see what we get. If no pedal, the car stays home and we take the backup car to Watkins Glen. _________________ Cheers;

The car has brakes again. I just needed to be more patient, and learn which way to turn the adjusters in the rear drums. With that complete and the last of the air bubbles removed from the system the car is again safe and ready for the track.
After this I do need to work on the low beam passenger headlight. It works on high beam but not low, so there is probably a broken wire inside. We did also test the bulb and it works on both, so it is a wire.
On to the track weekend next week. First we pack. _________________ Cheers;

Could also be a fuse if stock. Each filament has its own fuse for a total of 4. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Worked on the interior of my 924 today.
New soundproofing, new headliner, fitted carpets.
Here are some pics from this weekends progress, dodge buzzing around and being a sweetheart as usual:

Awe, Puffina. Lucky you live in the middle of nowhere or I would steal her from you
I had planned to drop the motor into Sabine this weekend with the help of another Board member but as I was buttoning up the rear and double checking everything (hard to do once the trans axle is in place) I went to fit the rear sway bar....WTF ? No brackets on the TB carrier ?! The PO had 1/2 updated the car to the M471 option but never did the rear sway because the car never came with the brackets. I never even thought to look because I had assumed they all came with from the S2 cars forward. Turns out even some of the early 944 cars didn't get them !
So, now I have to halt work on Sabine until I can get a set of the brackets to weld to the tube.
On to Olive now so I can drive her for the summer. Pulled most of the ancillary bits from the rear and now have access to the snail shell. It is making metal in a big way once it gets warm so it will need to be shipped off for a complete rebuild. That's not horrible however as I want to install the LSD I got in a parts lot as well as all new dogteeth gears from CMS. In the meantime I will just put in one of the spare boxes here, it's untested but I don't care, it won't be in for long.
Next up I need to fix a tight spot in the steering rack. I just finished the full rebuild on Sabine's and have extra bearings etc. so I will probably just pull it, strip it and rebuild it. Also have no assist with the brake booster. I have a new vacuum vale for it so will see if that helps otherwise the hunt will be on for the culprit. I need brakes though, my shoes are too thin as it is.
After that I will make an 'L' shaped bracket to stiffen the clutch master flex on the cracked firewall. It is really cracked up and actually binds with the pedal in the 'in' position because of the angle of the shaft ! No safe or fun to drive. I have a full firewall plate from 944only but don't want to pull the entire motor right now since I still have a fully rebuilt one coming and will need to do it again then.
Too many cars, too much work. I need to sell something.....

Ugh! Life really gets in the way of building racecars right? Some progress:
Mounted up the oil cooler and plumbed in the remote filter boss:
Finished fitting up the rear bumper and started bogging and sanding:
Cut out the spare wheel carrier and fitted up the fuel tank. Turns out it needs to go further back to clear the back of the gearbox and alternator assy:
Bent up then powdercoated some mounts:
All snugged and plumbed in, doesn't poke out too much and fuel is flowing:
