They were recommended by a few different people for having some of the best built bolt-in cages out there. |
Make sure you have large enough plates under the legs of the cage. Do they go to the sills or the floor pan? Hopefully the former - much stronger.
When we built the #77, this was the reason for us choosing OG Racing for our bolt-in cage... sadly they don't seem to still supply cages (which they of course did have made for them)... |
I hadn't thought of that because all the pics I have seen show brackets for mounting to the rocker box. I just called and the owner said only the weld in cage will go to the rockers and the cage itself is much closer fitted to the shell etc. He stressed that the weld-in is a much better option even though the installation price is higher so I think I may change to that.
Going to give it a think over the next few days and go from there...
Thanks for the heads up Vaughn, I appreciate that !

My Safety Devices cage is bolt in. It comes with feet to bolt into the shell but should be mounted onto welded in mounting plates larger than the feet. If you don't use weld in plates the cage bolts will rip out of the shell in a big impact defeating the object of using one.
Whilst weld in is stronger and safer, the flexibility of unbolting if required is nice if the car isn't a 100% focussed track car.
Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the weld in plates. In the pic are the feet attached the to rear cage which bolt into/through the weld in plates. The plates at the front of the rear cage require captive nuts to be welded in to bolt to.

So I spend all day yesterday (and a few million brain cells) scrubbing all of the glue and tar they used to hold in the carpet and tunnel insulation piece and finally got Sabine sparkly clean.
Along with the engine bay :
My Thermo-Tec matting also came in so I will lay that all down this week... _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

Yes, she is by far and away the cleanest bodied 931 I have ever seen. There is nor a spec of rust on her anywhere, including the battery tray.

I do have some modern valve train components ready to go on my desk with some options. Just need to machine new seats. The plan is to develop over time. You already gave me a pointer or two but I'll likely lean on everyone's insight here and there
Joakim's build is awesome. Wish I could learn more but I assume its in Swedish(??) if any forum thread is available? German isn't a problem
I think I have always liked the journey potentially more than (or at least equally) the enjoyment of driving and I do enjoy beating down the brush of my own path
Edit: Funny didn't see this whole page worth of another topic. That paint looks great! _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

Spent a productive weekend sorting through parts and thinking about what happens next. Then got super high wiping down every inch of the engine bay so she's squeeky clean. Those mineral spirits / naptha are the good stuff.
Also stripped the steering rack to the individual components. The grease inside was dry and the Sahara Desert and providing zero lubrication. I will take the body to work tomorrow for sand blast then paint. New tie rods are on order so should have them next week along with the lower needle bearing for the rack. Unfortunately the upper bearing looks to be NLA.
Installed the front boxed A-arms with poly bushings, custom strut housings with #250 Weltmeisters and my 951 big black brakes.
Also picked up some NOS air filters from Ebay, couldn't resist at the price and I LOVE the label on the box. 924 Turbo love.
Moving along..
