Traded my 81 cb650c for an 80 924 turbo with 67,000 miles on it. Hasn't really ran for 10 years. The guy that had it before me was trying to fix some things on it, but didn't know how to do everything right, so I have to fix some of his mistakes. Major items are: Clutch, paint, fix timing belt (new belt is on, but I think it's a tooth off, backfires through intake), and it has a fuel leak at the filter up by the driver's side windshield. _________________ '80 924 Turbo - SOLD!

Welcome.
I am quite new myself but you will find a lost of expertise, experience, tom foolery and darn right cheekiness on 924board
Well that little lot should keep you out of mischief for a while, sounds nice! that is low millage (2 and a bit K per year) for a car nearly 30 years old. Sounds like its been used as a shopping car. You may find it has been round the clock. Who knows?
(sorry for shouting but...)
Hope you are gona post your pics for us. _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

Fix that fuel leak!!! A common mistake that uninformed 931 owners make is to put the fuel filter in backwards. It seems counter-intuitive at first glance, but the filter needs to be installed with the flow arrow pointing TOWARD the windshield. If you take time to follow the fuel line routing, it makes sense, but at first glance, it's easy to assume that the flow should be from rear to front. Make sure it's installed correctly. If it's on backwards, it's almost certainly damaged due to the high pressure from the CIS fuel pump, so you will need to REPLACE IT. It's possible this could be contributing to your leak.
And make sure you get that timing belt on correctly...no need at risking your valves. I saw that one listed on Craigslist IIRC. Looks like a pretty decent candidate. Good luck!!! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Yeah ideola, it was on CL Iowa area. I will look at that filter and see if that's what happened. Thanks for the tip. It will be replaced if that's what happened.
Also, forgot to mention that I already fixed one problem with the ignition. When I got it from the previous owner, he had to jump the starter with a screwdriver to fire it up and said he didn't know if the starter was bad or what. The ignition switch just wouldn't go to the "start" position. After I got it home, I put a little bit of graphite dry lube into the key hole and it fixed it and now I can crank it like it's supposed to. Took all of 5 minutes to figure out! _________________ '80 924 Turbo - SOLD!

No worries. If the turbo 4 banger pisses me off too much, there's always the 6.0L Chevy LQ9 with LS3 heads in the corner of the garage that's waiting to jump into something! _________________ '80 924 Turbo - SOLD!
